The Isles gave up 1st round in 2020, 2nd round in 2020, conditional 3rd round in 2022 (only if the Isles win the Stanley Cup). A bit too much for someone who never scored more than 20 goals until this season.
Sounds like Lou knew that he'd be out after this year if he did nothing, so mortgaging the future means nothing to him. Unless this guy gets them at least to the Cup finals this year or next year it will turn out to be a bad deal, but at least he did something. They were going nowhere as is.
This fills a need at center. 24 goals 16 assists makes him our leading goal scorer and 3rd overall with points on the team. He is very good defensively and is solid on PK. When Casey comes back we will be one of the deepest teams at C. This move fills a big need and like the Greene trade the Isles just got better. Hoping Lou can find a scorer on wing though.
I disagree. Let’s just drop the conditional 3rd since we can’t expect a Cup Finals, the likelihood we get someone with that first and second that break the NHL roster in the next three years probably isn’t very high. I’d rather keep our existing prospects if they wanted guys like Wahlstrom or Bellows, who we expect to make it to the team. If they would have taken Aho or Ho-Sang I’m sure Lou would have thrown in the airfare.
Looks like we are bringing in Parise. Another report from Incarcerated Bob has Ladd going to Minnesota. Isles are definitely in win now mode with this. Bringing in vets who can compete.
