He is endorsed by Peyton Manning. Manning has nothing to gain endorsing him nor does he go around endorsing everyone.

He made the playoffs his first year in Miami and admittedly some mistakes after that. While not identical his record in Miami was similar to Belichick in Cleveland.

His first year with the Jets he made some mistakes and the wheels came off. He kept everything together and took a team with 5 win talent to a 7-9 record, finishing 6-2 after starting 1-7.

Darnold loves him and that says a lot.

The NFL is an offensive league. Look at the coaching landscape and tell me what realistic option would be better than Coach Gase?

You can make statements here but supporting them is something entirely different. "Endorsing" is quite a vague concept without further explanation. I found reference to Manning saying Gase would be good for Darnold; I saw nothing from Manning suggesting that Gase is the second coming of Belichick or bound for the Hall of Fame.
Where or when has Darnold said he loves Gase?

I thought a rebuild started with a new GM.

Having a blueprint of what a "NY Jet" is supposed to look like and play like would go a long ways towards fixing this problem.

OP: You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but I respectfully disagree. Br4d pretty much summed up my assessment of things. And with the upcoming schedule, things might turn dark quickly. My only hope is that Douglas can finally build this team into a sustained winner like the teams he's been with.

I don't think it can open much further.

Wait. Sorry, thought you said offensive line.

On that note I can see a scenario where Douglas drafts well but the Jets finish worse than 7-9 in 2020 thanks to a young OL and a tough schedule. In that case the feeling going forward will be very positive - even more positive than this offseason up to now.

Well you’re definitely entitled to your opinion. At least you stand by it.

While I don’t agree - I sure hope you turn out right.

Yes, while I certainly don't expect things to get better with Gase, I acknowledge he might surprise me, and I'd be happy for that. If they go 7-9 and are in most games, and the key players are improving (QB, OL, pass rush, secondary), and Gase's game plans actually seem to work and he's able to make adjustments when they don't, I'll consider it progress.

If you'd told me when I first signed up for TGG that the Jets coach would post here, I'd have been thrilled. But this isn't how I envisioned it.

Under most circumstances my friend. In the year 2020 any rebuilding team must find a franchise QB. They also must find a talented coach to oversee the operation. Normally, a rebuild starts with a new GM- in this case the Jets just did things out of order.

The Jets went (7-9) in 2019, missing the playoffs for a 9th straight season, and that was their best record since going (10-6) in 2015 and still missing the playoffs. Things are NOT going well. They eventually could though. Joe Douglas needs to properly do his job and the Jets can compete in 2020 and into the future. Darnold needs to take that next step too and hopefully stay healthy while doing so.

Does this mean Papa John is going to be the next GM?

I need to see what the idiots do with Robby & Adams long term first before I can jump on the bandwagon of things are going well.

The latest reports I'm reading concerning Robby are not encouraging to say the least.

So since you're strictly counting wins and not taking strength of schedule into account(which was a joke in the 2nd half of the games), next year when they only win 5-6 games, you cant say its because of a hard schedule.

I’d be okay if Myles Garrett smacked that tool upside the head with a helmet.

They will finish with a worse record, however it will be due to their really tough schedule. Steady the ship.

Do you think Robbie is worth #1 receiver money?
