I agree with what you are saying. For the right price maybe our second third on draft day seeing who is available I'd consider it but if not agree 100% build through the draft and build a consistent winner. That being said I then think about Jaleen Saunders Ardarius Stewart, Shaq Evans, Devin Smith and Chad Hansen and think trading a third for Golladay would be better.

That is why at 11 zero in on 3 or 4 players (hopefully oline), if not there trade back and get more picks to help the oline, cb, wr and edge positions. Really only positions I want to see drafted.

His cap hit is 2.5 for next year and no one has so much as speculated on what the lions are looking for in compensation. But yea, ok, he’s too expensive.
If the lions are really shopping him, jets have to call at least and check the price. Last year of his deal should make it cheaper and could be a conditional pick next year depending on whether he stays on the team.
I don’t think Golliday is a box office move. Doubt many casual fans know who he is unless they had him in their fantasy team.

2.5 million for Golladay next year that is a bargain. If we can get him for what we traded Leonard Williams for I'd do it right now. People might think I'm crazy but 65 catches 1190 yards and 11 tds at 2.5 million. Done. Be a huge help to Darnold especially if we lose Anderson. Golladay Crowder and a draft pick. With Herndon and Griffin. I'd be pumped.

The Lions aren't trading Golladay for a few midround picks, not unless something is Santoniously wrong with him.

By that definition the Jets will either be giving up the 11th pick plus or acquiring a damaged product, in either case whom they will likely feel compelled to extend immediately at top of the market.

If the Lions are willing to let Golladay go for a 3rd round choice they know something the rest of the NFL does not.

On principle I agree with you. But it also wouldn't be beyond reasonable to see a bad franchise make a bad move. They do it all the time. They did it last year when they fucked with the locker room dynamics big time and traded Diggs for a bullshit 6th round pick.

One of the worst secondaries in the NFL traded away one of their starting defensive backs and he picked off three balls in five games for his new team. That's a Jets, Lions, Browns, Bengals, etc. thing to do.

the Lions are stupid but they aren't that stupid. Golladay yields a 1st or 2nd round pick

Le'Veon + a 3rd for Golladay? Not sure any team in the league even wants Bell to be honest though.

Avery Williamson + a pick for Golladay?

Golladay is a rising star approaching prime time. His career could go either way at this point but it wouldn't be surprising to see him get a few more pro bowls in before he's done.

That said, he's fools gold for anybody but the Lions or a very strong contender with lots of other pieces in play. He's good for the Lions because they've got skin in the game and know his capabilities. If they're beginning to think he might not re-sign with them because he's decided the organization is total crap, well then trading him might be their only shot to get value out of him. There is usually a sucker out there who will give you a 1st round pick for the kind of talent he represents.

BTW, if you really want to take a shot at Golladay then you want to get some guaranteed value back alongside him and you want to be the seller not the buyer.

Think Jamal Adams. Not that I would trade Jamal Adams but getting Golladay plus a 1st and a 3rd is where I would start if I did.

Yeah, I have to agree that it would be a shame if the Jets only signed Glasgow as an outside free agent. My post was an attempt at a "worst case" free agent scenario. I wanted to point out that drafting a first round RT (to be LT) and a second round C, along with resigning Beachum and Lewis and signing Glasgow would probably give us a decent professional line. I'm very impressed with the WR depth of this year's draft, which is why I speculated that they could get a good one like Claypool in the fourth round; however, I wouldn't disagree that drafting a potential star receiver in the third round instead might be a better move. I guess I'm sticking to LT in the first and C in the second for nostalgic reasons (still remember the thrill of drafting Ferguson and Mangold!) and because these two are arguably the most important positions in Darnold's future OL. We might even draft a WR at 68 and get lucky with a small school Edge like Alex Highsmith at pick 79, but I also have to agree that we might get lucky with a FA edge rusher.

Regarding the need for a potential running back, I'm just thinking that Bell is going to have to get the great majority of the work anyway, and it seems like teams like the Ravens and Steelers draft interchangeable starting RB's around the 4th or later rounds every year! With that in mind, I'm going for Bell plus committee RB's this year (yes, including free agents Moore and Dixon) and waiting until 2021 to make my big RB move.

Finally, I think Thomas will have limited options as a FA WR and will be available for the vet minimum. But if the jets go early third round for a WR, Thomas may not be needed.

I sincerely hope that we go hard to sign a competent (for a change!) FA CB, but how often do teams allow their competent FA CB's to hit the market?

If we could get this free agent class along with draft choices like Thomas, Becton, or Jefferson, I'd nominate you for NFL executive of the year!
