And let's face the facts it's not as if Darnold has established himself as one of the game's elite QBs either. Yet. The hope is that he can make that jump if he does why wouldn't Robby be able to put up monster production?
It would be a tragedy to lose Robby now IMO. All he's done since the first preseason game he played in is blow the top off of oposing defenses. He's busted his @ss to get to this point. He's going to break the bank he deserves it. He's about to enter his prime years too which would make his loss hurt that much more. If he ends up in Buffalo helping Allen and the Bills get to a Super Bowl it would break my heart. It's the Jets so have to worry about them doing the incompetent same old Jets thing.
1) Pay Anderson and draft a WR on a rookie contract. Even if we think Anderson is a number 2 receiver having a potential number 1 on a rookie contract means we still haven't allocated excessive resources to our receiving corps. I don't know what the other options are, I doubt Amari Cooper will shake free from Dallas and he will cost more anyhow. 2) Retaining Anderson helps Darnold. He has already spent 2 seasons developing with Anderson, that synergy should be built on. 3) The Jets already have a talent problem, we can't really afford the little talent we do have walking out the door. Who will we replace him with? Trying to draft in an entire receiving corps seems fraught with danger. Have Anderson as a vet will at least take some heat off any rookies we draft.
It was hyperbole but also it is needed to counter the bullshit that is often printed about him on here.
There are probably only a handful of people on here that would say differently. However, the problem is how do you replace a guy who's already one of the, if not the, best WR in FA without downgrading? Unless you are one of the equally small number of people on here who thinks that Robby is a scrub, you can't. Not this year at least. And even providing an AllPro level line isn't going to help the offense if there's no one to throw too.
I will never understand why the fan base doesn't love robby. he was an UDFA WR who's given it his all, has developed into a complete WR, and is one of the best deep threats in the NFL and has started for us since his rookie season and spent 2 seasons with sam at QB and has chemistry with him. he also loves being a jet and hasn't complained. Sure he isn't julio jones but so what. 99% of WRs aren't elite
Bill Barnwell has a thing on ESPN where he speculates possible scenarios. He has the Jets losing Robby Anderson but signing Emmanuel Sanders. That's a neutral move IMO on the field, and saves lots of money
But who’s available that’s better than Robbie? Serious question champ, who do you like better than Robbie?
But save money for other needs, and likely won't tie us to an overpriced, under-performing Anderson (once he gets paid).
No not a cop out it is IMHO that U R just not smart enough to understand what I am saying so U go Ur way & I will go mine
