I feel bad for Watson, guy hasn't done anything wrong today. Lousy special teams and coaching cost him.
I’m sure some will try to claim he choked away game. That’s always the playoff narrative somehow. Just hrs ago people were trying to apply that to Reid. Drives me crazy.
If you go back as far as I do, you might remember this ... A few weeks before that Cleveland debacle we were hosting NE. A win would have put us just one game behind them for the division lead with 4 games still to play. Pat Leahy lines up for a 33 yard game winner with seconds left. Victory in our grasp! He pulls it left. 19-17 New England. 3 games out with 4 left ... division gone. That's why all we had left to play for in Cleve was the wild card. Leahy got off easy that week because it was November 19, 1978 ... As he was choking away the division, Herm Edwards was scooping up a fumble in the Meadowlands and galloping into the end zone.
I'm sitting here shaking my head because all this stuff happened before I was born, but is so familiar, so Jets-like, matches up so well with the moments I actually have experienced...goddamn, 42 years ago and they're still at it.
This game reminds one of BUF vs NYJ AFC 1981 Wildcard playoff game at Shea. Bills got off to quick 24 point lead early in 2nd quarter and then Jets came back with a vengeance. Eventually, the Jets lost the game on last second Todd INT by Bill Simpson at BUF two yard line. Forever missing the Sack Exchange and that high octane offense of the '80s.
I've been a diehard since Namath signed on. I was in the stands at that game. I thought Shea was gonna literally implode. Fucking Richard Todd...
