I try to be positive with the Jets and always hope for the best but I got to say since Rex and the boys went to back to back championship games and beat Brady, Manning and Rivers along the way we have just been on a downward spiral. It seems every move we make in the draft like missing on Mahomes, all the first round busts, all the second round busts, winning meaningless games when you could play your youth to see what you have going into each draft. I just don’t get how bad we can be as an organization to not understand these simple steps to success. Free agency has been if we overpay players they will come but not necessarily work out. In free agency instead of taking the wait and see approach for depth they go all in on a position and if he gets hurt we’re F’d. This year we had a HUGE opportunity with only 4 head coaching vacancies to go after Lincoln Riley or Jim Harbaugh. Now next year when we get rid of Gace we are going to have to compete with 7-10 open spots. It’s not to late for them to clean house and start fresh with someone who isn’t a lame duck. Last but not least the Johnson’s are incredibly ignorant owners that to take a page out of the Seattle model of doing business and wake up.
So we are to believe that Harbaugh and Riley would've turned down the Giants and Cowboys for the Jets? C'mon now.
For that matter, Bud Grant is only 92 years old. The man is 158-96-5 in the NFL, and took a team to the Super Bowl. Why aren't we tearing his door down? It has to be because he's an outspoken proponent of water and wetland conservation.
Oh boy ...Team spirals downward and the Js bank account upward Plus we blew a chance to hire Mike McCarthy not meeting his demands (like the Owners are football smarter??...smh) I don't like AG at all and I get we will be circling back to rehiring a new HC but part of me wants to believe he and Douglas have some miracle next Season...otherwise is our D.C. Greg Williams waiting in the wings?? I have no Crystal Ball but the Jets need some Good Luck
I think there is a little more reason for optimism that sometimes we give credit for. It may have not been a perfectly straight and level path, and it cost some 2nd round picks but we DID manage to get a good QB so the most critical thing is squared away. This past season could and likely would have been a lot better had the Jets not been completely de-railed by some awful luck with injuries. If they can just manage to make a couple real improvements to their offensive line and get them working as a cohesive unit results should be way better. Just gotta be patient. I don't think the Jets are a lost in the wilderness trainwreck. I think they are pretty close to respectability and actually maybe not even "that" far away from legit success if they get a few breaks.
Most likely: NYJ Detroit Cinci Miami Jax Atlanta Likely if they rebuild: LA Chargers Tampa Denver Raiders Outside chance: Patriots (we can only hope) Browns (they fire a HC almost every year) Minny (there were reports Zimmer would leave) So based on that I think 7-10 openings is more likely than not.
the cowboys job is one of the worst in the nfl for a head coach. Jerry has all say on personal and every coach he has is his hand puppet like Garrett. McCarthy reeked of desperation taking that job. the giants is also a shit job with Gettlman still calling the shots. The best thing the Jets have going for them would be for the Johnson’s to let their coaching staff and front office make personal decisions. I think that’s more appealing to a guy like Riley or Harbaugh looking for a Rhule type deal. This is something we can offer and other teams can’t.
You'd have to admit there's more glamour coaching the Cowboys than the Jets. Jerry Jones is who he is and these guys all know that going in but they still take the job.
Jets aside I think you’re dead wrong on the dolphins, bengals, bucs and broncos going 2 and out with their new coaches.
Why , because McCarthy took it? He was jumping in the first bus coming, didn’t care where it’s going. As long as jerry is doing a weekly hit on the radio the top candidates will not want to go there.
Hard to say what was going thru McCarthy's mind. I will say that leaving one storied franchise for another is not exactly a career killer. He left GB for DAL. That's not too shabby and looks pretty good on any resume.
If not for 2 key early injuries to our D (avery and mosely) and one key injury on O (herndon) you would have been carrying Gase on your shoulders into the Playoffs.
