That's the $64,000 question. If the Dallas roster is as talented as billed, why the mediocre record? I wonder if Jerry's over-involvement as owner and GM has created a culture where the players tune out the coach because they know he's nothing more than a puppet for Jones. Maybe the talent is overrated? These are as good as any other explanations, I suppose.
I don't think the bold is out of the realm of possibility. After a long time of not being able to get over the hump, coaches voice is not heard in the room anymore even without a Jones type owner/GM. Mike McCarthy is a good example of that his last two years in Green Bay. It might be exacerbated when Garrett is constantly trying to coach up players and perhaps scold them and then Uncle Jerry puts his arm around them and tells them he's going to pay them all the money in the world whether they practice hard or not.
This guy must be the best salesman in the world. He did a good job at Temple. He did a good job at Baylor (although didn't really beat anyone worthwhile and lost to the better coach at Oklahoma 2x). But I've never seen such hysteria over a guy with one bowl win in his career and three winning seasons.
LOL!! The hype for Rhule is mind-blowing to me. I do not see what some see in that guy. And I would not touch a coach from Belichick's coaching tree with a 10ft pole for a head coaching position. NO ONE pans out in the NFL, except for Bill O'Brien: Romeo Crennel Eric Mangini Josh McDaniels Al Groh Matt Patricia
Jury is still out on him. He is a LONG way away from a "successful" head coach. I did not list him because it's a little unfair considering the roster purge in Miami this year
Agreed, but in his defense, he's only had one losing season and has made the playoffs 4 times in 6 years with Houston.
It's too early to say what kind of HC he'll become, but I liked how he had them playing competitively after trading away their best players. It also helps that it was year 1 of the Fitz Cycle where he has a good season.
That’s simple, It takes three phases of a football team to be a championship team, the Cowboys had the best offense in the league and a top 6 defense. Their Special Teams was ranked 30th in the league and their FG kicker only hit 1 FG beyond 40 Yards.
I respectfully disagree. He's awful. He set the Panthers back years. He's doing the same thing to the Giants now. He may have been good years ago, but whatever eye or edge he had is gone imo.
Since I live in NC, I just hope he has the goods and can produce. With the control and money they're paying him, the Panthers will be dead for the next decade or so and this will become a miserable place to live during football season if he can't produce.
