I think you're right to a certain extent but it's mostly worked out for us. I don't think there's been a huge emphasis on it, however from Jay Feeley to Folk to Myers we've had a good kicking game for the better part of the past decade. These feel like more of situations that just worked out rather than targeting top guys, but hey three is a trend. Maybe they thought it'd just work out again? We should've just went down with the Catanzaro ship one way or another. As far as special teams is concerned though. The unit was really bad for a couple years after Westhoff. The kick and punt coverage units were horrible, and I think Boyer deserves a lot of credit for turning that around.
I don't know that they undervalued them. I think it's probably more a matter of Mac knowing for the last two years that they were rebuilding and didn't see the sense in paying a lot of money for a kicker when we weren't going to be winning a lot of games anyway.
No argument there - we saved about 3m, though with all the kickers we brought in and had to pay to, could be less than 3, but the difference in production between 70 and 82 is quite drastic and likely cost us a couple of games, including the opener. Now we just signed a guy who is as inaccurate as Ficken, but has more range. Was it worth it? I say no.
Musical chairs, I get get your point, but lol. Of course it gave me a clear visual of a bunch of scrubs in Jets uniforms at a kid's birthday party and not making out too good. Our kickers can't even play pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey for cryin' out loud. Bobbing for apples, don't go there. I might hold somebody's head under water.
He would not kick short, but he did miss more kicks and had lower percentage. Still better than Ficken due to leg strength, but not by much. Sure, he has a famous show on HBO on Friday nights, good for a couple of laughs, but I am hoping Jets find someone who can kick a bit better.
the best kicking prospect for 2020 is a guy from Stanford named Jet Toner. https://gostanford.com/sports/football/roster/jet-toner/16092 I feel like he meets your criteria for a funny name
