I heard they fired Bruce Allen yesterday, so that makes things more attractive for Rivera, or any other potential hire.
Agreed. It sounds as if Mara tore a page from the Woody/Chris playbook. If they can Gettleman after next season, they'll have to arrange a shotgun marriage. The next GM will have to accept the job with a coach in place. You also have wonder if keeping Gettleman will limit the number of candidates interested in the HC job. The Giants have a weird ownership structure. Mara and Tisch each own 50% of the team. There's no tie-breaker, so they have to agree on all moves. This sounds like a compromise. From what some writers were reporting, Mara wanted to keep both Shurmur and Gettleman, while Tisch wanted to can both. It sounds as if they split the baby, and threw Shurmur overboard (Is that a mixed metaphor or what?)
See I don't understand this... I get giving an hc at least 2 years. Let them work through problems. And I get letting GM have more depending on the situation they came into.. I can also see firing a hc and letting the gm pick his own. IE us firing Gase and letting Douglas decide. But when you have a coach in his 2nd year does he help pick the GM? And if so who do you fire next? The owner?
Giants are going all in on Matt Rhule. Really have no idea if he'll make a good HC. Doesn't strike me as the type of college coach that succeeds in the pro's. Spurrier couldn't, Erickson couldn't, Butch Davis couldn't. Just don't have the best feeling about him
I'm not sold on Rhule. Just know if he ends up being good is another reason we screwed up hiring Gase.
Cowboys say still no decision on Garrett. https://www.kristv.com/sports/nfl/d...ave-made-no-decision-on-jason-garretts-future
Jerry Jones really likes Garrett. Maybe it's a good time for the Cowboys to hand the reins firmly to the next generation and let Jerry enjoy his retirement in a luxury box with no responsibility or blame for what comes next. This approach paid HUGE dividends for the Ravens and Art Modell. Modell got to watch the team flourish under new management from a position of total safety in both the organization and the stadium and slowly built back the respect that fleeing Cleveland in the dark of the night cost him.
Nah, Rex knows football, he’s just not that right guy for a rebuild or the main messenger of a franchise. Put him with that Dallas roster and jerry deflecting attention he’s do well. Not sure how long it would last but he’d match what he did here, minimum.
Idk. I think Rex could still be a helluva DC somewhere. I don't trust handing him the keys to the whole deal though. Maybe if it was with a good offensive mind and they basically share.. idk...
Butch Davis actually took a Browns team to the playoffs!....... that in itself has to be somewhat successful, yes ?
I agree that Kitchens was a bad hire, but Williams wasn't the answer either. He has a .393 winning percentage in 56 games. I expected them to go after McCarthy, especially with the Packers connection.
