Since our Oct 27 opening TD drive against Jacksonville, the Jets have scored 40 points on opening drives. Jets are #1 in the NFL on points scored on opening drives. When Gase scripts (and practices) our first 10-15 plays, our offense is #1 in the league. Hopefully with a full year in the system, our players can extend that effectiveness to the next 20 drives. We're gonna need it with a killer 2020 schedule. https://nypost.com/2019/12/24/jets-incredible-touchdown-streak-comes-with-troubling-trend/
1.Too bad the season starts in early Sep 2. Too bad opening drives don't win games 3. Too bad Gase CAN'T call plays without a script 4. Too bad Gase has had 4 bad years Go away Gase nut huggers
Too bad we can't just play the first drive and go home with a win... This team will take a quantum leap the year AFTER Gase and his millions are history.
Yeah, so this is akin to congratulating yourself on being the tallest midget in the room but at least it’s something to build upon. How many games have we seen where it looked like the Jets’ offense didn’t even practice? First drive after a bye week starts with illegal motion penalty? Jets call time out and then get penalized for too many men in the huddle? Burning timeouts because the play doesn’t get to the QB fast enough? this isn’t a good offense. Sometimes when things aren’t good you should concentrate on the things you’re competent at. The foundation gets built before the man-room in the attic.
Right about that same time the Jets started playing the easiest schedule in the entire league. More fool's gold.
This is the problem when you have a coach that has no idea what to do to make the proper in game adjustments.
Maybe script the entire game? Perhaps just the whole 1st half. Hell, I'd settle for the 1st qtr. Kinda sort sighted only scripting for the 1st drive dontcha think??
I think the script thing is kinda normal across the league for the first drive. Most coaches either adjust or go with what’s working. Ours doesn’t adjust or decides to stop going with whats working.
Ah..yes And speaking of Scripts..if those opening drives were like Groundhog Day with Bill Murry coaching we might have 1000s of points by now and into eternity
It seems to say that Gase is good at watching tape and figuring out what can work against a certain defense that he expects to see, but once the opposing team adjusts to what he's doing he has no answer. It's actually at least a better story to say that the Jets have averaged 23.9 points per game since week 9, which would put them around #13 in points per game (in comparison to everyone else's full season number). Of course that was also against a lot of crap teams.
That's basically been his whole career aside from when Manning was calling plays for him. I mean he tried to do the dink dunk crap in Miami because it was working for other teams like New England, but he didn't have to personnel. He doesn't really know enough adjust and change his plans. He can't play to the strengths of his players.. just 1 drive based on some film he watched and play the whole game without adjusting.
W-Ls are really the only team stat that counts. I'll be excited when we're #1 in the NFL in Ws. Zero playoffs since 2010. WOW. And the decade is up in a few days. It feels like just yesterday I was watching the Jets choke in Pittsburgh. Where did the decade go?
