The question is whether we can pay him like a #2 receiver or whether we'll have to pay him like a #1.
He's pretty much an identical player to Tyrell Williams with a similar career trajectory. I think that deal is fair. All of the Raiders struggles point to exactly why a player like that (and Robby Anderson) cannot be your top target.
We won’t be in a position to take Andrew Thomas. Better off taking Jeudy, Lamb, or trading down to take a center and Higgins.
the thought of taking a WR high in the first round to me is ridiculous. There soooo many WRs out there who werent drafted anywhere near the first round let alone top ten. although it would be better than drafting another 300 lb fat poo bear-looking tubby dufus
Absolutely - As long as the team doesn't view him as a #1 prototype resign him. He can be a solid #2. However the Jets do have to add a big WR to play on the other side. Robby would be more effective in this role....cost effective that is.
offensive line first, everything else later... if there's no good quality OL at whatever # the Jets pick, I'd trade down
For every Jeudy and CeeCee there's D-lineman looking to blow past the sleeping palace guards Compton & Lewis en route to flattening Darnold. Sexy WR picks yes, but the Jets are long-overdue paying the OL piper to the extent that they can't rely on FA alone. .
Let me add while we all know the Jets lack a big #1 go to WR, I agree the OL does have to come first. JD needs to hit it hard in FA and the draft. Early and often.
I think if you don't ha e a line rated high enough for our pick, you trade down if possible. If that doesn't happen or oline isn't available at the new spot and another player of a position of need is you take it. Whether its an WR, CB, or whatever. Reaching for a pick can hurt just as much as taking another 300 lb space eater.
A reach won't be necessary. There's almost always quality OL available where we'll be picking and that needs to be the priority this offseason. No need to get cute like previous FO regimes here. Combine need and value and fill the most glaring holes on the team starting with the OL.
You just made my point for me. If Thomas is there then we need to take him. Case closed. Even if he's not there and they trade down I still expect them to address the OL early in the draft.
Thomas will be gone in the top 5. Not doubt about that. And to trade down you need a trade partner then you need an OL worth it at that pick. If there isn't one you trade down agsin (unlikely) or take someone worth it at a different position of need. If we take Lamb or Higgins or an CB or Edge that is worth it so be it. This draft is deep at OL in the 2-4th rounds. Again no sense reaching.
Then you target Wirfs who is a top 15 pick on most boards and can play both tackle spots. If the draft is that deep at OL then sure maybe we pass on Wirfs and grab Lamb at #9 (future star) but you better believe we'll still be addressing OL early as in Rd 2.
The people that say “OL or nothing else..all else fails trade down”. I really struggle w this logic. Are we loaded at every other position group? Is OL the one position holding us back from contention? If the draft is set up to get OL on day 2..and we have plentiful picks in that area of the draft, why in the world would we reach on OL in RD 1 who isnt worth the pick or trade dwn simply bc they arent OL? This is the definition of self defeating & is not good roster management
