I guess I just don't see playcalling as some huge detriment to this team or Sam's development. I think it's been pretty solid since he got back, which I know you disagree with. I'll take a look at the All-22 tonight.

This is obviously just purely numbers based... but for shits, if you take out the New England game:
    9 games, 15 TD, 11 INT, 2338 yards, 65.2% completion

And if you take those numbers and average them out to 16 games:
    16 games, 26 TD, 19 INT, 4156 yards.

Again, purely a numbers game, but that shows you just how much that one game affects the way people view him on the surface.

But again I'm just quoting Gase here so it's not JUST me that thinks it's an issue.

I agree with you but in a moment of pedantry I am going to say Fitz ran for more yards :p

Even his bad games are better than his bad games used to be.

Darnold needs to get more consistent himself. Last year he had some atrocious games midseason and needed a restart. And it was the same thing this year. He needs to show up for work and be the same guy every week.

I understand there is a defense out there trying to make him play poorly, but that's why he was drafted so high, to set a standard here. You can't bunch together multiple horrendous games, finish strong and call it a good season

His inconsistency stems from being 22 years old and only have 3.5 years of QB experience under his belt. Sam is a QB that needs to be given the full length of his rookie deal to determine if he's truly the guy.

Gase doesn't say anything about the play calling...
"Zomg what a piece of shit!! he throws the players under the bus. no accountability"

Gase says "I could've called better plays"
"Zomg what a piece of shit!! he even admits he sucks as calling plays!!!"

Denial is the first step. He got over it, I applaud him.

I mean his numbers are better across the board from last year. While he hasnt made the jump into the top 5 or anything, he has improved in every facet of the game. I dont know how to import the table from pro football reference, but these are the stats that he has improved upon since last season.

    Completion%
    TD%
    INT%
    Y/A
    AY/A
    Yards per Game
    QB Rating
    ANY/A

Sacks are up, which are partially his fault, but I think we can all agree the offensive line is doing him zero favors.

    PS
And, just because I'm a homer, if you take out the New England game, he's top 15 in TD% and top 18 in INT%.

Having said that, the Patriot game happened, and you cant just omit the games you dont like.

1, the ghost thing is dumb. People want to pretend like it’s a Sam thing and not something every an says.
    2. That game is looking more and more like an outlier.
    3. It’s not like beli hasn’t devoured every 22 year old qb not named Lamar he has ever faced.
    4. Would it have been better for Sam to eat every snap that game and give the team less of a chance ? The line had no answer for the 0 coverage blitz.
    5. Look how much better this bad game was than that one. Huge improvement.

Sam has rebounded very well from that game. Most 22 year old QBs would fold, but not ours.

if you have 3 or 4 "outliers" a year, its tough to make the playoffs. I don't want any more outliers

IMO he's improving and the last 14 games he's had only 2 games with multiple interceptions. He's improving his ball security. Improve that and he needs to start taking what the defense gives him, but at the SAME time learn to deviate from the gameplan and make plays.

    It's not easy.

yeah he is improving in general. I'm not killing the kid, I'm just saying, if you want a big area where he needs to get better, its right there - consistency

I think you forgot to subtract the INTS. In NE game he had 4. SO his numbers would be better

Point is still the same but i think stronger. And yes he needs to own the shitty games but point is his numbers were heavily affected by that atrocious game -- perhaps our worst O-line play in years

You are correct, I was subtracting the 4 from his 2018 total. Whoops. So again just for shits and giggles:

    9 games, 15 TD, 7 INT, 2338 yards, 65.2% completion

    And over 16 games:
    16 games, 26 TD, 12 INT, 4156 yards.

We'd all jump for joy. Crazy how one horrendous game changed things that much.

    Coaching - inconsistent
    OL - inconsistent
    Running Game - inconsistent

Is it really surprising that Darnolds play has also been inconsistent?

Not in the slightest, but 3/4 of this board evaluates this team in a vacuum and not as a whole. If you consider every factor on this team, it makes perfect sense as to why Darnold is streaky.

People want him to be Pat Mahomes and take us to the next level, but fail to realize the Jets have next to no talent.
