this is exactly what the tampering rule is for. I dont think the league office has enough balls to do the right thing here though
He's a bigmouth, obnoxious, and I'm certain, a bully. One would think that the other owners would enjoy seeing Jones get hit with a fine and lose a draft pick or two.
Actually it is tampering. Someone linked the tampering rules a few pages back. This fits squarely in those rules. Just like Johnson telling the media he wanted Bevis back.
Jerry Jones knows a sucker when he sees one. He was trying to bamboozle the Johnsons out of their best player. Thankfully the Johnsons (in this instance) weren't as incompetent as they look.
JJ drops chum in the water to create discourse between a player (Adams in this case) and the player's front office. The genesis of many trades is an unhappy player. We all saw first hand the turmoil this caused between Adams, his HC, and his GM. Mission accomplished. If Adams DOES start demanding a trade, and end up on the Cowboys, then we could see draft pick penalties levied against JJ. But as it stands now, no harm, no foul.
I agree with the first half of your post, but disagree with the last bit. If it's tampering, then it should cost Dallas draft picks, regardless of whether Adams remains a Jet, is traded to Dallas, or traded elsewhere. It still caused turmoil and dissension
You could be right. If Jones dropped the tweet himself, than for sure. But I think the tweet was dropped by someone who covers Dallas (i could be wrong...but i've moved on and don't feel like looking it up!)
The penalty varies. In this case Dallas had no contact with Adams, most that would be levied is a fine. Adams made the trade attempt public before that tweet. And to answer your question about draft pick. No. We do not get the pick. It is forfeited not rewarded as compensation.
