I don't think most people are giving up on Sam. There's a difference between calling out bad play for what it is and giving up on him. As for the Miami pick, even if he was trying to throw it away, that was still the wrong decision. You can't throw it away if you're off your back foot with a free rusher in your face. You have to take the sack.
Or put another way (forget Darnold for a minute): Why did Chase Edmunds from powerhouse Fordham Univ. rack up 100+ yds. and 3 TDs vs. the Giants? . Why does the Colts' Jonathan Williams (cut/waived by Bills/Broncos/Saints) run for 100+ yards last night while the Jets can't spring a Le'Veon Bell for more than 30-50 yards a game? Back to Darnold: name of the game today: kill their QB while protecting yours.
What the fuck? Jets OL was good last year? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I mean, Jets OL last year was good last year? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Just what the fuck, man? What the fuck.
The Jets OL was definitely not good last season, no matter how you look at things. Bottom or close to the bottom in running the ball. 18th in sacks allowed, but many of us commented last season on how well Darnold felt the pressure and moved around in the pocket to avoid it. Not that it lead to a successful play, just that he avoided a sack. Of 34 QB’s listed by PFF last season, Darnold was under pressure (32% of drop backs) more often then 22 of them. The OL was bad last season, and graduated to “the worst” this season.
Sam has jitterbug feet when the D is nearby & has to learn to throw the ball away instead of trying to forcing into a tight hole
I mean. Paradis is blocking for the NFL's leading rusher. I think Kalil played way worse than Harrison is. But we still should've signed a center.
