I don't think they're completely talentless nor have they become superstars but I think it's a lack of options type of scenario. Anderson doesn't do anything over the middle, Crowder runs a ton of shallow crosses and likely draws the most attention. Griffin seems to be really the only intermediate target we have and red zone threat as well. Which is sad. But I can't imagine he's going to command a huge contract. He was teamless in camp. Maybe you're right though. Eli always loved throwing to big body tight ends regardless of skill level. The great Larry Donnell has 600 yards receiver and 6 touchdowns one year.
depends on the price. I think we are overrating him personally. 1st off he's gonna be 30 come january. 2nd off he was cut by the texans and not like their TEs are great, 3rd we signed him for only 1 year 2 mil because nobody was going after him. 3rd he's having a possibly career year here which his preivous was under 500 yards and he may not top that. he's not going to be a hot commodity. we could likely sign him for another 1 year deal cheap. I'd be highly suprised if he got any decent offers
If he is cheap than that’s different. I don’t think he is going to be, but if he is . Great. I don’t hate having him just predicting what I think will happen
for sure. I thinhk we keep him on a cheap deal as a TE2 to pair with herndon but if someone offers him a big deal I wouldn't bother to match it. i'd like to see what wesco can do
He will likely be the 5th most desirable tightend behind Eric Ebron, Jack Doyle, Tyler Eifert and Hunter Henry. There's a couple of RFA - Ricky Seals-Jones, Blake Jarwin and Jacob Hollister as well. What do you consider to be reasonable? 1 year - $5 million? I'd like to keep him because I'm all about keeping things the same or improving for a young QB. Losing him without signing anything substantial is a loss in my eyes.
I wouldn't pay more then 3 mil for 1 year or 2 years for 6 mil and backload a little to make it easier on the 2020 cap. those are the only 2 deals i'd look at.
Since Darnold had his red face hissy fit in office with the specialist in hissy fits Gase, I doubt Griffin is going anywhere if Sam likes that option of throwing his way. For once Gase is listening and it's paying off. BTW a Gem of a signing in July by our new GM , only a month after he took over in June
Not even sure why Herndon gets so much credit. He's actually done very little to this point, just mostly potential. Hope he gets his act together next year.
Before we get too critical about overpaying him, the Jets should identify a better option, because without Griffin this year would have been an even bigger offensive joke. Especially since our stud TE is always dancing between suspensions and injuries with not much contribution at all. So when we establish value and worth, being on the field and making plays, scoring touch downs and giving Sam one real outlet is worth a lot more than talent sitting on the bench doing nothing. Griffin has been one of the few bright spots for Sam on an otherwise dreadful offensive line up.
Always dancing between suspension and injury? Come on, he is in his 2nd year. Played all of his rookie year then got suspended/injured for his 3nd season. I don’t think that qualifies as “always dancing between injured and suspended “ . You have to figure the hammy was a direct result of the suspension.
Very good move. Sam likes him and he’s productive. I said in the Griffin thread that I’d invest in him long term. Glad Joe D is a fan of mine.
I was just waiting for it to be a 3 year/$28 million extension. This is good value though. He might be playing a little bit better than he really is but he has reliable hands he blocks a little, he can run after the catch and most importantly our young QB feels comfortable with him.
