Didn't know he was in the league 7 years.. He's not fast, but he is effective. Teams just forget he's there..

He always showed some talent on Houston, he just couldn't stay healthy.

I like the kid. Great complementary TE and he is deceiving with his ability to find the opening

What I've noticed about him is he's very effective when chipping and then rolling out which works great with Sam's ability to roll out. It's exactly what they do in Houston with Fells in the RPO. He sells the block real well and executes too. He's a guy I'd invest in longterm even with a healthy Herndon.

Having a good year. Not sure he is in the long term plans though. We’ll see, but I expect hi to go elsewhere next season. Maybe the packers?

The Packers could definitely use him, but I hope that you're wrong and the Jets keep him long term. He's been a great contributor and Sam and he seem to have a connection. With a better OL, a two-TE set and Bell, Crowder and Thomas or Anderson, Sam would have a ton of targets, there would be mismatches, and someone would be open.

I hate when teams "overthink" players' long term abilities...

Keep it simple and keep the guys that produce. Ryan is one of those guys.

Defenses seem to key in on players who can take it to the house on any given play, leaving guys like Griffin semi-uncovered. And Sam's making the pay!

The problem there is you are splitting crowder out wide. Crowder is a slot wr only. Two tight ends with crowder split wide isn’t our strongest formation. That’s why I’m not sure he comes back . Do you want to sacrifice a lot of what crowder does for ryan griffin?

Sam seems to have a knack for making unheralded tight ends look like superstars.

It’s not overthinking. It’s balancing what he is going to make v how will you use him. Gase doesn’t run a lot of 21 personnel. So it’s either him or Herndon or re work the system and sacrifice some of crowders best attributes.

Why would Crowder be split out wide? He could still be in the slot. Herndon could be out wide on Crowder's right, and Griffin could be in next to the OT on the other side of the line.

Herndon is not reliable. IF he's available to play, then he can battle Griffin for the TE spot. its all good, let the best man play. Griffin has earned his spot on this team for next year

2 TE sets is more versatile. better for blocking easier to run out of. crowder can catch a breather on those plays.

I understand the pros and cons of 2 tight end sets. I don’t think the hc/gm are going to see the value in bringing back griffin to let crowder catch his breathe every now and then. This isn’t so much about his skill set as it is about cap usage and value. There’s going to be a few teams bidding on him. Considering the formations gase likes to use, the players we already have and how much he would get used are we really going to outbid other teams for his service? I doubt it.

Or you split Griffin out wide and force the 5'11" corner to cover him or let them bring the safety over and kick the outside corner into the slot against Crowder.

I don't want to change anything that works for Sam. If he likes a target you bring him back. Herndon is more of a question mark than an answer at this point.

I like two tight end sets because you can move around these tightends. This doesn't have to be an Anthony Becht situation where he's glued to outside the tackle. Although we desperately need a TE that can block like him.
