With all the "Gase is on the hotseat" articles and sports radio chatter, this is something that Chris needed to do. Whether true or not remains to be seen, but the players have to believe their coach is not a dead man walking. This was for the locker room more than anything else.

True, but he could have done it without painting himself into a corner.

Chris: "I just want to end all the speculation in the media. I have confidence in Adam Gase, and he will not be fired during the season."

A reporter would naturally ask the logical follow-up question: what about after the season? That should have been a belt-high fastball for Chris.

Chris: "We will evaluate everyone -- both player and coaches -- at the end of the season, just as we do every year."

End result: he's supported his coach without boxing himself in, and he's sent a clear message that the results this year are not acceptable.

He can still fire Gase anytime he wants regardless.

Jets fans are so fucking premenstrual.

Yeah I mean this is the most important point of the thread. You can't create a lame duck situation or else Gase, being the petty looking guy he is, could come out and run the ball up the gut 4 times in a row including on every 4th down and throw the middle finger up to his owner for selling him out.

Ha I’d rather Gase do that at this point to get us a high draft pick and get himself fired. Gase isn’t the guy and I’m done rationalizing the Johnsons abysmal decisions. What’s gonna happen is he’s going to ruin Darnold and this team will endure another 5 years of going nowhere.

The Knicks and Jets should be relegated to lower leagues like they do in the British Premier League. Once their millions in revenue are threatened that would cause change to happen.

What a great idea! Too bad it will never be implemented.

Will Gase be emboldened by such a comment? Will he give up any attempt at cooperating with others in the organization? Will he alienate more players than he has in the past? Will he eventually tell Johnson to fuck off because Gase is much smarter than he is like he did to Ross? What's the over/under on when it will happen? Will Johnson then double down on keeping him or will he go buy a pair of high-priced balls for himself?

Well i can't say i agree with keeping him, but now we are keeping him hopefully he can prove everyone wrong and lead us to the a winning record next season, or at least a decent season. My prediction is that we will keep him for 3 years, he'll go 15-33 and be remembered as a true nightmare, Darnold will have been cast off and we'll be picking a new QB in the 2022 draft. Like i say i do not believe in Gase, but i have been wrong before, i hope i am wrong again. We'll let Douglas pick the next coach before the draft and then fire him just after the draft. So the cycle goes on and on and on.

CJ just wanted to give Gase the opportunity to match Kotite's futility. LOL

Here's the weirdest part: Chris Johnson made the decision to bring Gase back next year after the Dolphins game but before Giants game. In other words, this genius decided Gase was a keeper immediately after Gase had steered the team to a defeat against a team trying to lose. The decision would almost be more defensible if Johnson made it in the after-glow of beating the Giants, even though the Giants suck, but after losing to the Dolphins? WTF? Geez, if the Jets were to lose the rest of their games, Chris would probably give Gase an extension. What am I missing?
