So i'm listening to WFAN:grin:. And a caller mentioned to Somers how Benigno says the new Jets fans are nothing like the die-hards, the ones who went to Shea Stadium, etc. How it's a problem for this specific Jets fan to make the drive to the Meadowlands from Long Island...And Benigno notices how "Today's Jet fan" has a much filthier mouth and likes to cause fights.

Somers and Benigno state that a stadium should of been built in Queens or in Long Island, since that is where the die-hard Jets fan live. I haven't lived in New York since I moved from home when I was 12, 7 years ago, and when I was up there in October this year, Queens did look a little more Jets friendly...

To make the long story short...Do you all agree that the die-hards reside in these 2 locations?

And do you consider yourself a new Jets fan(new can mean mid 90's if you will) that likes to talk trash to others? I myself love to talk trash, even if it gets to the point of dropping F-Bombs, which I admit, I do. But I don't ever take it to the limits of fighting. Maybe that's why my Floridian friends hate me when I talk shit about their teams when I talk smack about my beloved Jets, Yanks, and Knicks:grin:

I'm a new Jets fan also and I agree with what they are talking about. However, I think it is more of a change in society than just Jets fans. Younger people nowadays are more likely to curse, fight, and do that kind of stuff for their team. People have much less patience and like to instigate arguments. Overall, I like arguing about my team however I try to avoid talking trash too much because I know it will always come back to get me.

When Joe was in his 30s as a Jet fan is when the ban on alcohol in the 4th qtr began when they lit the Stadium setas on fire and even earlier when thy rioted after our lat game at Shea. The idiot trend is nothing new at jet games, it's been going on a long time including when Joe was young.

Total BS. Im a jet fan all my life. Been to shea and saw Joe namath play. I'm from Brooklyn and have lived in a lot of places. I live in Tampa and there are many Jet Fans all over. Benigasshole thinks he is better jet fan than us all, but he fails to recognize we are all passionate for our team no matter where we live. They need there own stadium, and I'm not very happy to share with the giants. I rather them in NY anywhere. I have always blived and died with this team. Same as the Rangers and when they finally won the cup, it changed for me a little. I guess when I see the Jets win the Super Bowl it will change also. So I wait and I will be a diehard forever.

Complete and utter BS, I come from a line of Jets fans from Staten Island. So what if we moved to Jersey? Big deal. So, because of where I'm geographically located, that indicates what type of fan I am?

    Pffft.

Many Die-Hards does live in Queens/LI(me) but many people has also moved to New Jersery in recent years.

I think building a stadium in Queens or New York would be better for the Jets because its easier to get to and can grab more people. The ticket value is will also be higher, I can't believe when I go to the games at the Meadowlands people, there is like people with stacks of tickets. They are selling there tickets for way under value, while all season ticket holders pay $70+ each.

I certainly don't agree with the comment that todays Jet fan has a filthier mouth and likes to cause fights. My Dad went to Shea, and he said that crowd was MUCH crazier. And wasn't it at Shea that the people in a section of the top were pissing on the people down below at the last game there against the Steelers?
I'm a Long Islaner and i think the Jets belong back home here.

In a geographical sense most JETS fans do live in Queens/LI/Brooklyn, but I won't say a fan is more diehard if he lives there. As in game atmosphere I've heard stories from my Dad and his friends that security was non existent at Shea as fans could trash the visitors bench and sneak into the game.

I live by DC and go to school by Baltimore and on days when I go to games I'll see 10-15 cars driving up to the Meadowlands from the DC/MD/VA area.

You are aware that a few years ago the NYJs tix office released a report that over 50% of the season holders addresses are in NJ. Are you saying all those holders have moved back to Queens/LI since that report was published?

People seem to forget that the Jets have now played in New Jersey since 1984. This is their 23rd year in New Jersey. They played in Shea for 20 years. Also, the Jets took a survey before the WSS and found that there is just as high percentage of Jet fans in NJ as anywhere. I grew up on Long Island, lived 10 years in Connecticut and now live in NJ and I have been a diehard season ticket holder through it all. When I moved to Connecticut and New Jersey, I did not become a lesser fan. The location of the stadium has nothing to do with the passion of the fans. Jet fans would not be more passionate if the team played in Queens or NJ. That is just stupid.

As for sharing the stadiuim, what difference does that make? On game day, only one team plays in the stadium. The Jets will have their own locker room and will no longer have to "travel" to home games. In fact, sharing a stadium with a team that plays a different sport is far worse than one that plays the same sport. Look at the muti-purpose football - baseball stadiums. Besides being lousy stadiums from both teams standpoint, you get confllicts, poor seating, etc. Why doesn't sharing a stadium negatively impact hockey and basketball teams? Shouldn't the Knicks have their own arena?

As for today's fan being less passionate and more trash-talking, the trash talking part is true. But there were far more fights and unruliness in Shea. One thing I will say is that today's generation of fans cares less about the game and more about other things - tailgating, drinking, cheerleaders, fantasy football etc. It boggles my mind how few people are in the stadium at the start of a game - that never happened at Shea or in the early years at the Meadowlands. Nobody cared about the lack of cheerleaders at Jet games until today's generation. People at Shea threw oranges at the band at halftime. It also is incredible when I see a Jet fan in the stands cheer when an opponent scores a TD because that player is on their fantasy team.!! I play fantasy football also and conflicts are unavoidable, but the Jets always come first.

Well i lived in Long Island for the first 8 years of my life before i moved to Jersey and i go back to Long Island a lot to visit family, friends, etc and i will say that it is a pretty big Jets place and so is Queens for that matter but i dont think that it takes away anything from Jersey.

I have been a Jet fan since 1967 and have always lived in NJ. The Shea days were brutal. The stadium was cold, the winds were bitter, the field sucked, not to mention that its a nighmare to get to, but, still made several trips a year to watch the Jets. (I know, Mass Transit, easy access. I do not like mass transit.)

I also made the trip to watch the Yankees, when they played there for several years and hated that stadium even more. I always said the Jets need their own stadium and identety, playing in GIANT stadium and all.

Not to take anything away from the fans from NY, but, in jersey we have many passionate and diehard Jets fans. We all have one thing in common our undivided love for this team. If the Jets move to Conn. I will make the trip.

I've been to Shea many times and saw some brutal and disgusting stuff in the stands. The last game against Pittsburgh was how I picture a European soccer game. So I wouldn't say things are worse in the stands now. Traffic sucked there too don't forget.

I would prefer our own stadium but let's face it, there are only 8 games a year and taxpayers probably have better things to pay for then another NFL stadium so to me it makes sense to share. They need to put some trains in or something though so the Long Islanders and New Yorkers can get there easier.

I live in LI now, have had season tickets for 12 years and I'm 18. Obviously, I'm considered a "new" jet fan. I dont trash talk, unless the other fan deserves it, if they start it, they will get it.

I agree. I was born and raised in Bayside Queens. I am a 4 minute car ride to Shea Stadium. My first Football game was 1979 The Baltimore Colts vs. The Jets at Shea. Jets won 30-17. Todd was God (at least to a 7 year old). SO yes I agree the die hards were and are from the Queens area. Not Long Island, Not Jersey.

I don't agree that the new Jet fan is foul mouthed. It has always been the case in every sport.

Would better train service to the stadium from LI help? I'm just curious.

The thing that has always bothered me is that New Jersey was never a Jet's area. Ever. New Jersey in the 70's was split between the Eagles and the Giants with a small scattering of Jet's fans.

The Giants move to Jersey made sense because they were competing with the Eagles directly for fans in that state.

The Jets following them made no sense at all because the majority of the Jet's fans were rooted in the 5 boros, southern Connecticut and northern Jersey. For them to move to north Jersey just made life much harder for 90% of their diehard fans.

These days New Jersey may well have a much higher percentage of Jet's fans than it did in 1980. However the 5 boros and southern Connecticut definitely have fewer Jet's fans, with many more of them concentrated in Queens and Long Island than they used to be. Mainly because Hofstra was such a big Jet's connection point.

I just never saw the logic of moving to Jersey. And I agree with Benigno that Queens and Long Island have the most diehard Jet's fans even though that's not where I'm from. I did live in Douglaston for 4 years and that's Jet's country through and through.

And yes, we should all be glad they're still the New York Jets.

I can't think of another professional team in any sport that has stuck around town longer when the town kept telling them to bugger off by not building a stadium of some sort when they asked.

Edit: I'll admit that I think Woody was just as responsible this time around by sticking to his white elephant plans long after they fell through and not building the likely counter-proposal in Queens.
