One of the worst free agency signings - and although there's going to be 12 mil of dead money, that 3 million is worth salvaging by cutting him. Good riddance
Its on record that both Bowles CS & MAC wanted to sign Tru. The idea was to play press which he used to be good at..but A.He lost his closing speed & was toast from day 1 B.Bowles never played press anyway!! Thats a theme that really drove me nuts.We signed/drafted all these big corners to play press & the run like Bowles preached but instead wed see passive off coverage on sundays which exposed the corners for what they were..just no synergy or clue whatsoever.
No if we cut him next year we save $3 million, however $12 million of that is dead money. I believe that would all come off the books 2021 if I am not mistaken. It was one of Macagnans few moves where he didn’t give the team an out after 2 seasons.
Correct. He received a $20M signing bonus, which is prorated $4M per year (5-year contract). So, he will count $12M against the cap next season (3 seasons remaining x $4M per year). He will still count against the cap in 2021 and 2022, $8M and $4M respectively.
Bag well and truly secured but his career as a footballer is over, who is ever gonna pay that lazy clown money again, not that he will be arsed with his bag bulging with Jet$
That's something that drove me nuts here in the second Revis signing. And it was echoed repeatedly. "Bowles needs big time press cover corners to run his system." Him and the 31 other teams in the NFL. No one would ever play zone if they could put Revis + Deion Sanders on either sides of the field.
IMO, I don't think Joe Douglas cares about all that, what I do think is putting him on IR was an easy way to get rid of him, and when we cut him it'll be just a bad memory
I've probably posted this three times already in this thread over the last year but when I think back to how excited I was when the Jets signed him it just makes me shudder.
