In fairness, Douglas wasn't here when he was signed. Keep the star (Bell) & ditch the coach (Gase). It's really simple.
Yeah, good points. The o-line needs to be rebuilt, no doubt. I'd still keep Bell. It can be improved this off-season and Bell have a really productive 2020 season for the Jets. I also get not wanting to pay that much for a RB, but the Jets did. That's it. The decision has been made and I am fine with it because Bell has a lot of talent and is a class act. He is a special player.
I totally get where you are coming from, but I think one of the things you said is the key ....it (Oline) needs to be improved, not necessarily completely fixed, for Bell to become WAY more effective. He is so good, it won't take that much. To me, that's worth keeping him around for next year. There will still be a market for him then if there is one now.
A first round draft pick would be enticing. It would also free up the cap for next season guys, they are 1-6.
If they believe Darnold is the FQB the Jets have been dying for for 40 years...they should move bell for OL/draft capital. Anything else is sending mixed signals and they further risk ruining Darnold. The OL is so bad I could see them eating a bug chunk of his salary just to get the draft pick.
The last decision maker signed bell needing to make a splash. This is the residue of not cleaning house in February.
doubt they get a 1 and i just got a notification saying Chiefs and Texans are interested this is a with a grain of salt IMO since the source in Mehta
So trade our top skill position player who has been nothing but a model citizen with us? Makes sense.........
sorry, this was a stupid signing to begin with. when is this team going to notice they are the only team who still signs FA running backs to big money while 31 other teams are drafting Rb's. What a JOKE!
You hit the nail smack in the center of the head. The organization is in massive disarray. Most all the problems stem from the top. The ownership screw this up from beginning to end. Woody had more interest in politics, Chris is massively incompetent, taking it upon himself to make decisions he has no capability to execute successfully. Choosing the HC to start, allowing Mac to destroy free agency and the draft one more time on his way out. Over the last three GM we have had no aim nor plan to implement a proper rebuilding process. Chris has no business managing the HC and GM at his level. With this leadership and no filter at the top from an NFL savvy Head of Operations we have no hope. MY two cents.
If Bell is indeed traded I would hope it is Douglas knowing that RB should be the last piece of the puzzle, not the first.
Meh. As pointed out yesterday, we suck at drafting anyone. I and many have zero faith in this organization's ability to draft talented players.
understandable sentiment but they need capital to rebuild this steaming shit pile of a team. Not going all in on the rebuild is how they got here.
I just had a thought. NY Daily News is a tabloid. Mehta is a tabloid writer. Yesterday he called Bob Wischusen a hypocrit for not calling out Leonard Williams. Wischusen quickly said he has been critical of Williams and other players which he has. Today he start the Bell rumor and it might be true but I think he just loves the reactions and I think that's part of his job to get the reaction. As I write this I see the Chiefs and Texans are intersted. I'm not opposed. At this point the team is an expansion franchise. We need alot in 2020. I'm ok with it for the right return. That also being said Gase still needs to go. This will be his excudse on why he should stay staying how bad this team is. It's going to come to us to be the voice for the change. I wonder what Woody thinks of this all.
Not opposed depends on price Would love to see us trade for a bona fide, known commodity offensive lineman We need to protect Sam, or we'll need to draft another QB before too long
