This organization is still trying to right the wrong of not taking Sapp in 95'. Just like we've had to try to right the wrong of not resigning Revis right away so we resigned him on his down slope and gave Trumaine Johnson a record contract. We'll be signing shitty corners and drafting defensive tackles until we get one. It's almost like the draftniks bait us into our picks. It was so obvious Q Williams was going to be incredibly raw vs. Josh Allen the polished player. Josh Allen was a three year starter in the SEC with 31.5 career sacks and 42 tackles for a loss on a no name defense at Kentucky. Quinnen Williams was a one year starter on the best defense in the country. It's so frustrating. I do still think he has a decent chance to be a good player. He's also playing out of position as a 4-3 end whenever I see him on the field. Probably because we have 40 defensive tackles on the roster and one end. Defensive tackles do have one of the steeper learning curves of any position.
No more players named Williams on the D Line for at least another 10 years please. No more DT's drafted in the first round over that same time. It's not like we haven't needed a stud PASS RUSHER for damn near a generation now. It's like a taboo subject in Jets land. For fuck's sake. Pathetically run franchise!!!
I do think he’ll be good for us, but it’s asinine we took another IDL with a top 5 pick. I do believe both Leonard and Quinnen would be much better in a 4-3 scheme where they can open up, but we run a DAMN 3-4 WHERE ALL THEY DO IS STUFF THE FUCKING RUN. You can find that with any 7th round pick. God I can’t believe this team has been so damn inept for so long, a blacked out drunk Jets fan throwing darts at a draft board would’ve picked better.
Not really though. We play plenty of 4 down lineman in passing situations. We just have zero pass rushers on this team. Scheme doesn't stop good defensive lineman from being disruptive unless it's something so agregious like playing John Abraham at nose guard. Or doing what we do in playing our nose tackle at 4-3 end...
The guy the Giants drafted at 17 out of Clemson looks like a much better player....the move was always Allen/Bosa or move down for extra picks.
Agreed 100%. Look at Kyle Phillips. He looks better than both of the Williams guys and yes, all 3/4 DE do is eat space for OLBs that we don’t have. Can’t believe Macagan is that dumb tbh.
