Build through the draft and don't do stupid things like massively overpaying free agents. That was his vision. And he defined it, look up his old press conferences. Agreed, never said he wasn't a bad GM. Not moving around wasn't the problem. Geno was a bust, but it wasn't like Idzik had many better options. Bridgewater, Carr, and Garoppolo were the best options in 2014, but they aren't great. And 2013 was barren. Because our corners are so much better now. Still better than re-signing Revis and wasting all that money. No arguments there, the drafts were awful. There were redeeming traits. Not trading away picks or overpaying free agents, so a lack of talent was the only problem we had. Also being irritable enough that he couldn't con people into liking him. If Mac got Woody to expand the scouting budget, Woody got ripped off. And such value Robby and a bunch of JAGs are. You say that like it was a good thing. Good cap management? Better than Tanny I guess (though Tanny built a good team at one point), but compared to most GMs he didn't manage the cap well. Not true, see above. Yup, Idzik was a bad GM. Maybe even remarkably bad. Just Mac was remarkably worse. I there there is a lot of action and persnonality bias here. (Idzik wasn't just bad, he was boring and abrasive. Whereas Mac made splashy moves and put on a nice face for the media. Doesn't change their performance though.)
I could not disagree more. We lost two talented players and replaced them with Mangold, Fergeson, and Faneca. If Favre had remained healthy we might have gone deep into the playoffs. Given the litany of bad coaches this franchise has had Mangini is better than average as far as I am concerned.

I always thought Mangini got a raw deal and should've had more time here. He also brought in Brick, Mangold, Revis and David Harris. That forgives him for Gholston. Mangini sure could coach the hell out of defensive backs too and managed a game decently well. The only thing that always drove me nuts about him was his prevent defenses when he was up in the 4th quarter. He really used to let teams walk down the field at the end of games it he had a lead. Good talent evaluator. I'm shocked he's been out of coaching for so long. I think a lot of the league looked down upon him for spygate.
