Who is a better GM, Mike Maccagnan or John Idzik?
Who is a better QB, Sam Darnold or Mark Sanchez?
Who is a better owner, Chris Johnson or Woody Johnson?

I'd actually go with Idzik, Darnold, and Woody. Idzik at least had the right idea building through the draft, he just couldn't evaluate talent to save his life.

To be fair to Idzik he only screwed on one draft. Maccagnan screwed up three off-seasons.

Idzik was the worst GM we’ve ever had bar none. Literally did everything wrong.
I can quickly name about 20 decent moves by Mac over the last couple years.
    Not so with the Iz.

Idzik was 1-11 on his signature draft while simultaneously striking out in FA, and throwing his CS under the bus.
If that wasn’t enough his way too late press conference was embarrassing.
Don’t let recency bias obscure how bad he was.

The real irony is Chris Johnson actually making us miss Woody tho. Oof

Idzik signed Ivory and Decker and drafted Enunwa and Richardson (who accomplished at least as much as L Williams has). He also left a lot of cap space behind and didn't give up any significant future assets. The team had little talent, but a good GM could have turned it around without too much trouble.

Mac has had more good moves, but a big reason why is he was around for 5 years instead of 2. Menawhile he also had more bad moves, and his bad moves (that includes the Gase hire btw, he is partially responsible) have done tremendous long-term damage to the team.

Downright scary and spooky to think that Kotite's '96 Jets (1-15) averaged over 110 yds/gm more in offense yardage than Gase's '19 Jets. The Jets will have to double their output over the last nine games to 420 yds/gm just to tie the sad sack '96 team's offense yardage output. Both being offensive coaches, you do the math as to who is better or worse.

I think we've forgotten how bad Kotite was.

Actually, Kotite was so bad as a GM, I'm not sure you can fully evaluate his 'skills' as an HC

And that was when they allowed you to play defense in the NFL.

Maccagnan also signed Revis the second time AND Trumaine Johnson. Idzik's drafts went poorly but he at least had the right idea. Maccagnan thought the highest paid RB and ILB contracts would fix a team with no offensive line, corners or pass rushers.

I remember when they signed Maccagnan and everyone was pining over his whole no high draft picks on offensive lineman theory. And I was like huh. That's interesting. He must be a hell of an offensive lineman talent evaluator...

And that was in 1996, when a league average offense wasn't as productive as one is today. #FireAdamGase

He also took Hack in the 2nd round, which might've made him eschew taking Watson or Mahomes the following year.
