Patriots placed Josh Gordon on IR, will waive him when healthy

The ending of the Josh Gordon era with the New England Patriots will not be a simple one, Nick O'Malley of Masslive reports.

On Wednesday, the Patriots placed the 28-year-old wide receiver on injured reserve due to a knee injury, with his season reportedly over. But within minutes, reports emerged that Gordon’s injury was not season-ending.

In fact, he could return in 2019. But if he does, it will apparently be with another team.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Patriots plan to waive Gordon once he gets fully healthy from two bone bruises he suffered earlier in the year. Meanwhile, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports that Gordon believes he’s actually close to returning and “could be available for teams as a free agent soon.”

According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Gordon believes his injury is “minor” and even ran 22 MPH on a treadmill earlier this week. Breer reports that Gordon expects to be released and will sign with a new team soon.

    No more Patriots trash please.

    Damarius Thomas is enough.

If he is not released before the trade deadline he will be subject to waivers when he is released.

For what it's worth. This is probably the first legitimate time we should sign him. We let another franchise rehabilitate him which we were obviously not equipped to do.

I always felt bad for Josh Gordon. Say what you want about him just needing to stay out of trouble and what not. But he wasn't getting caught with cocaine or guns or heroine needles in his arm. The guy was smoking a joint or having a couple beers.

I know, I know. Against league policy and he just shouldn't have done it. I always come back to Dante Stallworth who actually killed someone playing with a lesser suspension than this guy did.

They’re the only one. But we shouldn’t concern ourselves with it. Jets focus needs to be on Sam and this team only.

Not sure it’s going to be an option anyway. My guess is he is going to go to waivers. They’ll wait till Wednesday to release him to keep him from any playoff contender.
If so I wouldn’t care if they put a claim in. what’s the waivers order right now?

    goes by record so
    1) cincy
    2) Miami
    3) and 4) redskins and falcons (not sure of tie breaker)
    5) Jets

Funny if he goes to ATL then they basically traded sanu for a 2nd rounder and gordon

Probably not. I'd imagine cincy would put in a claim right away. they are really weak at WR right now too with injuries and their team as a whole is awful. wouldn't make sense for them to pass him up, plus cincy never cared about having headcases for players

Thats all well and good Fjay but if you listened to the QB whisperers press conference today his focus is very limited as some players he talks to and others he does not, some players he calls or visits ( Sam ) when they are out and others ( Osemele ) the guy has no clue what the player is doing and has not spoken ton them yeeeeeesh

I’m talking about this in another thread. No different then any other coach. When your injured and not coming to meetings or practice the hc doesn’t see you unless you’re the franchise qb.
I promise there hasn’t been much if any contact with Williamson or siemian either.

Fjay I totally disagree = MAYBE IN Jet land the head coach does not keep in contact or know what is going on with guys but in other organizations the coaches absolutely have a clue. This was not an interview/ press conference after a game where a coach was at the podium and says "I have to check with the trainers or check on him tomorrow " because he was involved in coaching the game.

I’m telling you C, they have a clue what the guys are doing but actual contact is rare. Unless you’re the qb or a star that has been with the team a while with a coach that’s been with the team a while. this situation we have here is not even close to being out of the ordinary.
