The Jets actually finished drives and punched it in the endzone. Cowboys D couldn't find a way to punch it in, testament to our defense.
That is interesting Brook. There's a lot to think about in that. For one, how did we defy those odds? What did we do, what did Dallas not do, to be that exception? And, it's troubling that the combination of those things almost guarantees a win...I'm not sure why it's troubling, but I guess it's because sporting contest outcomes shouldn't be so predictable. Anyway, I'm glad we defied the odds.
Wow Brook! you know what I find ironic? The last time the Jets played the Cowboys at home - the SN game in 2011- the Jets were the first team ever to beat the Cowboys after trailing by 14 points in the fourth quarter. At least that's how I remember hearing it......two long shot victories against the same team that they only play every four years.
that is pretty bizarre, but it also seems to me that we were on the opposing ends of these kind of statistical anomalies where the stats say teams win this game 99.9% of the team except this one Jets loss Remember the Bills home game in 2009. Jets rushed for 318 yards and loss because moron Sanchez threw 5 int's When does a team rush for 300+ and lose?
Simple as NYJForever wrote - the Jets stopped the Cowboys several times and flipped that one failed fourth down attempt into an immediate TD. That's at least a ten point swing right there. To defy those odds there would have to be a sudden long scoring play in there you would think.....
Yes!! There was actually a 6th INT on that fumbled FG snap if I remember correctly. That holding penalty on the Jones run in OT wiped that game out.....
Horrible QB play really held the 2009 Jets back. With an average QB and running game like we had (and the NFL's best D) that team could've been at least 11-5 or 12-4. Instead we had to work around Sanchez and it cost us though we still snuck in at 9-7. He was a bit better in the playoffs though we didn't ask him to do a ton vs Cincy or SD
I believe if Darnold was the QB back then the Jets would have gotten to and won one of those SBs.....
To Sanchez credit, he was good in the playoffs compared to the regular season but he was always limited in what you could ask him to do. Darnold is just so much smarter and a better pure playmaker than Sanchez.
Sam was 12 and 13 during those Super Bowls, so that would've been one heck of a feat. But, I get your point. Sanchez holding back a very good D and running game was frustrating.
I follow a few friends on twitter who happen to be Cowboys fans and all day they’ve been tweeting and retweeting other people saying that the Cowboys outplayed the Jets and the Cowboys beat themselves and blah blah blah. Fuck that. You got shredded by Sam. Own it.
Sure. Heck for a good chunk of the game the only think Dallas could muster was a 50 and 62(!!!) yard field goal. How often do you get both of those in a game? The Jets never trailed Dallas. Yet Dallas beat themselves? sure
Wow is right. I'd have bet that the Jets would have been the one team that lost, as that seems like something only the Jets could do.
This is exactly the type of game we would have lost in the past and blame it on poor D or referee fuck up. We stood tall and weathered some mistakes and bad officiating.
