Okay, when Sam comes back its not the offensive line we have worry about. ITS THE SYSTEM! I've been screaming this since week 1. We don't have the players to run a spread offense. Not to mention our offensive line has gotten worse since week 1, not better. (they even got worse after a bye week - wtf?) The spread shouldn't even be an option for this team, yet to Gase its our only solution. Its madness. Lets be clear. We have one major asset on offense - Levon Bell. We paid a lot of money for him and with the spread its like we don't even have him - which is also madness. We need to go big up front, add a fullback, and start pounding the ball. Give Bell a lot of help and let his natural talent move the chains. This will draw the LBs up and create space behind them for our wideouts. Its pretty simple and would be an offense Sam could run very well - probably even make big plays in. Not to mention keep him a lot healthier. Please - don't make me watch another game where we try to run the spread. Only a lunatic would stick with this offense.
Eh you try to spread to space out the defense. Teams aren't afraid of Falk at all, so it's the counter to trying to create gaps. You try to do smashmouth with a team with o line issues, you're really asking for it.
Really? Asking for it? You mean more than 10 sacks asking for it? You mean more than 30 rushing yards with one of the most talented runners asking for it? So we should establish the pass to open up the run - or maybe to protect the QB? Come on man. Wouldn't it be novel to have a back blocking on passing plays. Or someone to actually create a hole for one of the most elusive runners in the game. Quit drinking the cool aid. Dump the spread.
What fullback? They use Jonothan Goodwin as a FB. This offense struggles as is so you want to condense it more and have them play tighter where there will be less room for holes? The OLine can't block well
What holes? Have you seen any holes in our version of the spread? Yes we have a poor OL - that's why we cant run the spread. That's 5 sub par lineman trying to account for 6 defenders in the box. Bad for the running game - bad for pass protection. Add a blocking TE at least its 6 on 6. Add a fullback and now their defense needs to adjust, which opens up passing lanes. Heck I'd be up for putting a guard at FB.
They lined up Jonothan Harrison multiple times at FB in a power I and it didn't work. Our lack of a run game has nothing to do with the spread and everything to do with our linemen couldn't push over a 5th grader.
Gase has always been a "pass to open up the run" guy, and he's stubborn AF. When he gets behind big or he deems the obstacles in front of him (injuries, tough schedule) to be too much, he checks out. There is actually video of him sitting on the bench just doodling on a pad pretending to be drawing up a play while getting BTFO late in the season last year.
They are spreading the defense out because it simplifies blocking assignments up front.Remember that whole thing about Kalil & Co being completely inept at making line calls?
Kalil was never inept at making line calls before this season. So either he's lost his mind in one offseason, or there's something wrong with the coaching.
Its a complicated scheme that he started learning in Aug while simultaneously trying to knock out the cob webs from retirement AND play w 4 other OL who didnt play a single snap together all preseason.Meanwhile his playing days appear behind him & those aforementioned 4 other OL suck too. It’s a perfect storm of inadequacies.
That was no picture... It was really AG... living, breathing, inside that book. He haunts everyone of us.
There you go using common sense again. Your line of thinking is counter to the "Gase play calling sucks no matter what". BTW. It appears our WR are getting open, but the ball never reaches them, and when it does, they drop it.
Its time to circle back to this hard FACT. Gase's version of the spread not only doesn't work with us - it is destroying Sam's development. How many more weeks will we see our QB get hit double digit times while expecting him to "take the next step". Can you realize how hard it is to develop a QB when there is a jailbreak on him during 80% of the passing plays? We will never develop Darnold in this offense. Its too unstable to develop a QB. Not to mention being almost useless for the running game. The sheer lack of security in the pocket is causing Sam to regress. Even the rare instances he has time his mind is going a hundred miles an hour due to an overall lack of stability. He is only friggin 22. Cut him a break. Its time for some more pro set looks, two tight end formations, etc. This is no joke. It's Sam's second season and these are the stakes. If we don't change our offense Sam may be ruined for good.
Also, shouldn´t there be SOME SORT of hot route? CB blitzes -> Wr cuts his route off for a 5 yard hitch LB blitzes -> TE/RB leaks out for a 3 yard dump off for positive yards
It certainly looks like proof that Gase is simply convinced of his own brilliance, and will by god make that square peg fit into damned round hole he wants! His intractability is going to either ruin Sam or get him seriously injured.
Hot routes are on the wrs and an qb to see and communicate and be on the same page. Leaking out a check down option would be great but there’s not even time for that. The whole offense is out of synch. I do t know if Gase’s offense can work with this team or not because I haven’t seen anyone execute it. That’s the biggest criticism I can out on Gase is the team is not even close to where they should be after 7 games from an execution point. Sam throws to wrs who aren’t expecting passes, lineman letting the wrong guy run free it’s baffling.
