Im sure Falk is ready. My big problem is not with him but this team in general. How the hell aren't we able to score a touchdown last week against a mediocre defense in an NFL that is BEGGING teams to score with its rules. Yet we play this conservative style of ball that never works. God forbid we ever throw it down the field and draw a pass interference call. Look at teams like Jacksonville and Washington with "no name" QBs at least scoring touchdowns in the games they play. There is no excuse anymore to flat out not produce offense (unless your the Dolphins I guess). I look at the past 8 years and wonder what decade of football this organization thinks its living in.
Luke may be one of the good things salvaged out of this early season wreckage. I suspected back at draft time (2 ago) that this kid might surface somewhere someday and carve out a little niche for himself. I'm rooting for him to do well and become hopefully our long term effective and reliable backup to Darnold and make himself a few bucks in the process.
I came out of the preseason thinking Siemian was better than Falk. Game 2 told a different story. Falk was able to get us to the red zone twice....with our terrible offensive line. The team got a little jolt of energy when he came on the field. That’s saying a lot, because the offense had just about given up until then.
Belichick coached defenses tend to make inexperienced QB's look really bad. We couldn't score any points with Falk against the Browns......I think this week might be even worse.
He was really close to putting up an additional 14 points on the board though. 4th down stop and Bell fumble.
There were a couple 4th down stops, which was not a good sign for the offense. Overly conservative play calling and lack of adjustments to the pass rush was of course part of issue.
I see a lot of Trent Dilfer in Falk, good game manager who is cool under pressure and can work within a system, also is able to work well in the huddle. I can see him having a solid steady career with a decent Oline and good supporting cast.
It will be interesting to see how he does after practicing with the 1s for the first time in his NFL life.
I have a good feeling about Falk, although he may get killed against the Patriots, with the OL and terrible play calling. Still, he showed himself to be cool under pressure. From watching him in college, I was very surprised he didn't get drafted higher. He doesn't have superior physical abilities, but I do think he has superior football instincts and intelligence, and in my book that counts a lot. I hope he somehow pulls off a miracle this week and if he can't win, at least keeps us close, which will be a moral victory. He's not going to supplant Darnold, but he could prove to be a great back up.
He's got good height, he's very accurate with the football and seems to be a bright guy. That's a good basis to work with. Arm strength not that good, he's not mobile at all, and doesn't have a frame to withstand hits. That's the down side. Overall I think he's worth developing, and can turn into a solid backup or spot starter. This week playing against a Belichick defense in Foxboro is a very tough spot for any inexperienced QB tho. It won't be pretty, but we shouldn't write him off after it.
