Nice post! I really think Phillips should plan on using his first TWO draft picks next year on OL! Kelvin Beachum has been weak ever since MacCagnan overpaid him and he got absolutely embarrassed last night. I know, I know, we need CBs, WRs, and pass rushers too, but that OL is TERRIBLE, thanks to MacCagnan. No wonder Sieman got hurt!
Positives is I think we can win with Falk he seems to know the offense and provided more energy than Siemian. (That exchange with Trevor and our "OC" that was caught on Camera was pathetic and says a lot. Gase has to readjust his blocking schemes, Jarret was left unblocked on to many occasions. we also need to stop shooting ourselves in the foot with stupid penalties. It was 3rd and 2nd and long on way to many occasion for many play calls to be successful. Booger was even calling those plays as Gase went ultra conservative and predictable when Falk entered the game.
No Fjay ,,,make no mistake it was ugly and it was hard to watch but I honestly thought it would be worse than it was
I truly thought our offense would play better. Week 1 is like a preseason game with a new coach and offense. The defense played much better than expected mostly because GW was confusing Baker.
Different matchups. I expect our defense to look bad next week but think we should see a better offense. There’s no Myles Garrett to kill Beachum. I’ll be in Jersey Friday, May take the 3 tds the books are offering.
One of the big positives from yesterday is we can see how good Sam is working behind this OL and how his ability to extend plays makes our OL look better than they are. I hope he takes his time coming back.
I'll read about the positives later, but did anyone else absolutely HATE that fat faggot dance that Mayfield pulled after his TD to Beckham, Jr? It instantly reminded me of this:
since this is a positives thread... is it too much to dream Falk = Brady; Myle Garret = Mo Lewis (just testing limits )
This is the only thing that gives me pause about Douglas so far. Why didn't he bring in competition during TC for Catanzaro? Why did they rush to sign Bartolet when Matt Bryant was still out there? Did he even call Bryant or Bryant's agent? His first kicking competion only had 2-3 kickers, none of whom had been successful in the NFL. Why were Ficken and Elliott not included in the first kicking competition? Since Kaare Vedvik had been very good for the Ravens, I can understand why Douglas thought he had potential, but after he was so bad for the Vikings, it doesn't make sense why he didn't have to at least compete with Ficken and Elliott for the kicking job. I doubt that anyone else was going to rush to sign him. Ficken and Elliott sat out there for a couple of weeks. I hope that misjudgment of ability was a one-time thing, and that he doesn't prove to be just as bad as Mac in assessing player talent/ability when making FA and draft decisions.
I watched the game but didn't see the exchange between Siemian and the OC that you referenced. What happened? Booger belongs in the trash. What HC/OC in his right mind is going to to go wild with a 3rd string QB who has never played a down in the NFL and had no practice snaps with the starting offense? Of course Gase went conservative. It would have been insane and suicidal to do anything but go conservative until he saw how Falk handled being in the game and played.
More than we have to offer. Besides, that shouldn't even be a consideration. He's 31. The Jets need to invest their 1st round pick in an elite LT prospect that can play for 10 years not some player who's over 30 already and whose skills could evaporate overnight like Beacham's have.
Maybe Matt Bryant was retiring or resigning with the team he has spent 10 years with, maybe Douglas called and got told this, maybe not. At least he didn't bomb out a 5th for a shit kicker.
I agree about Hairston and hopefully Ficken works out. I must disagree on Maye. I believe it was he who was playing deep safety and took a horrible line to go after OBJ caught the short ball. If he holds his ground, it's a 20 yard pass, not an 89 yard dagger.
Disagree. OBJ had the whole field to himself. Maye tried to cut him off but it was just too difficult a position to do anything about it.
