I'm not so sure about any of this. Right now the team doesn't have close to enough cap space to make this offer. There's a reasonable possibility the Leafs would match it - they're under a lot of pressure to finally have some real success up there - and if they didn't it would cost the Islanders four first-round draft picks. Is he worth that? I have my doubts about that anyway, but it seems more likely that this is just something leaked by his agents to try to get Toronto to up their offer.
Lou can make the cap work this year pretty easily, but can he make it work next year, too, when Barzal is due to get paid? The money and picks don’t bother me; he’s worth it and it would force us to dump a few guys and bring up a few of the younger, and more importantly, cheaper players to fill out the roster. But if those kids pan out, and we can also get Barzal resigned, we would have a very dangerous core of a team for years to come. That’s before we even talk about my favorite subject, Sorokin.

This is happening folks. They are supposed to have a ground breaking ceremony in September probably so Cuomo can take his victory lap and get his share of the credit but it looks like shovels will meet dirt this week. I like the Brassard signing, and although it hasn’t been a newsworthy off season I like the team heading into the season. There’s a trade deadline every season to improve the team that year. The best case scenario for the Isles would be to get enough productivity out of one or two of the prospects that they feel comfortable enough trading a few others at the deadline.

Basically the same team as last year except Varlamov for Lehner and Brassard for Flippula. Lou still needs to find someone for the top 6 otherwise offense will be a problem again.
They will be fine. They will bring up the youth they probably expected to play the second half of last season. they may take a step back but internally they have to still feel positive about their potential long term with a few fixes or emerging young players if that’s the case.
Well, what I said a month ago is now official - Floral Park has filed suit to stop the Belmont development.
This is getting built. All of the important people in this process including the most powerful man in NY (Cuomo) want it built. The Isles owners are well prepared and did their homework in dealing with potential opposition. This isn't a surprise as there is always some opposition. Won't stop the project from going forward.
