I wont have an opnion until the Buffalo game...I really dont know what to expect. We havent seen Bell yet and what he will bring to the table.
The difference is that Buffalo is playing at our stadium Week 1 when the crowd is guaranteed to be rowdy and loud for the opener. I would be far less optimistic about a Jets win week 1 if they had to open at Buffalo.
I hear ya, and I'm optimistic too....I was referring to 'in general'. We pencil in 'wins' against teams we perceive as weak, other fans do the same. When they see 'Jets' on the calendar, they pencil in a 'win'! Hopefully, that's about to change!
It all depends upon how much Sam progresses, how long it takes the offense to gel, if they Jets can avoid serious injuries, if they get decent play from their CBs and if Williams can scheme an effective pass rush. I think the Jets could make the playoffs if they started 1-3, which I think is very possible, if not likely. That said, they may squeak in as a wildcard, but everything will have to go pretty much perfectly for that to happen, and I don't think it will. I'll be happy with 8-8, but could see them finishing 9-7 or maybe even 10-6. I think I predicted 10-6 in another thread trying to be optimistic and hopeful, but I think 8-8 or 9-7 are more likely.
they can't start 2-4. they have to start 3-3 or better. I know the schedule is difficult to start the year but if they start 2-4 (or worse) we will see the same old shit we saw under Bowles. players not caring, giving half effort, sitting out with hangnails, and a lack of discipline. All that work on "culture change" will be a lost cause. This team needs to start winning
Heard a segment on talk radio about how the home team advantage has nothing to do with fans and everything to do with refs. We might get a favorable call or 2 for being the home team (though being the Jets it’s unlikely) but the fans play no part in the equation.
I think you have to factor in travel, not being able to sleep in your own bed, time differences (just ask geno) etc ... the fans can def play a role as well
As a lifelong football fan I completely disagree with that radio segment as far as the fans go (though the point about the refs could also be valid). If its an important home game and the fans are fired up and very loud, I've personally seen multiple occasions when the opposing offense could not hear the plays called and had to waste a time out, or got false start penalties that were almost certainly caused by the crowd noise - especially on big 3rd downs when the crowd is at maximum volume. I do agree that in run-of-the-mill games where the crowd is not especially loud and the place is not sold out that the home field advantage is basically meaningless. This won't be the case week 1 against the Bills unless the Jets fall way behind, look lifeless, or otherwise do something to take the crowd out of the game. The crowd is going to be extremely loud, and extremely hyped to see Darnold and Bell and Mosley kick off a new season.
One thing going for the Jets this year is the furthest west they have to travel is Cincinnati. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
At least they have this year. What division do they play next year? Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
JD better work some magic next offseason or the "Don't worry about this season, we'll contend in 2020!" fans will be severely disappointed.
