I heard the NFL commissioner mention that Woody Johnson, among 8 other owners, developed the revenue sharing plan that was ultimately accepted. I was suprised when I originally heard Woody mentioned as working with the Pats on a proposal. The other owners involved in the final plan were Kraft, Bowlen, Richardson, Rooney, Jones, Mara, Blank, and Modell. Nice company. I am very pleased to see Woody Johnson associated with these other high level owners. I hope Woody continues in this vein to be an influential NFL owner. DbJ
I'll be working on a Woody Johnson sig in the next week. He's scored some points with the fans this offseason.
Sounds like Woody and Kraft worked together and came up with one of the plans that was used in the new CBA. He stepped up big.
Having some inside info I can tell you it was Woody and Kraft that actually came up with the plan.....those other owners played minor roles but it ultimately was done by Woody and Kraft
I was going to send a post today along the lines that I had never seen Woody in the background or forefront of any scenes at these owner's meetings. Well, perhaps that's because he was working to fix this mess. Jury's still out on Woody as an owner. But I don't think you can say he's cheap or doesn't want to win.
Maybe Woody is going to take a bigger role here as the Jets owner than in the past. He was vocal about Herm/Bradway this off-season, him and Kraft put together the new revenue sharing plan. It's good to see him being so active.
I will give Woody props for smelling out Herm's B.S. and showing him the door. I'm sure it was simmering for a while, but it probably all came to a head in Denver (when he ran off the field and blew off the press). That was probably the nail in the coffin for Cool-Aid boy.
This doesen't say anything good about Woody just that the Jets are one of the members of the high revenue teams that were in conflict with the low revenue teams. Of course he is with those owners. Those are the owners that were being asked to share their outside revenue. I have not ever heard anything to suggest that Woody gets any respect from anyone. Rather everything we have seen and heard about Woody suggests that he is an owner people to do want to work for.
I disagree. Historically, the Jets have always been quiet on league matters (traditionally following the Giants lead). This is the first time I can remember hearing we are an active participant in the league meetings. I think this offseason we are seeing WJ step up as an owner. DbJ
It would be better instead of being liked that he brought us a SB win ot two. I think that is why the games are played is to win the champiosnhip. Do you not agree?

I was going to say that the Jets are one of the lower revenue teams, with the fact that we don't own a stadium, its hard to bring in lots of money, hence the jacked up beer prices. Woody is working on a championship Champ, but in order for him to be an owner with respect, he has to do something in the NFL. It seems to me, he fired a coach that we all hated, he hired a guy who could be great, might not be, but we dont' know. He has cut a lot of deadwood on the team and is trying to improve it. The Jets are now over 20 million under the salary cap. I'd say that Woody has improved the team, the future of the team, the outlook of the present and now he has helped the NFL maintain its edge over all other sports. GOOD JOB WOODY!
You ask a question that can only be answered to make you look right. So rather than do that, I?ll say that your premise is misguided. You expect a inexperienced owner to bring immediate success to a franchise?which is not realistic. Using Bob Kraft as an example (since most would agree, he is the model everyone wants to follow), we can see that he did not bring instant Championships to a long suffering franchise. This is his record before the Pats won their first SB: 1994 10 - 6 1995 6 - 10 1996 11 - 5 1997 10 - 6 1998 9 - 7 1999 8 - 8 2000 5 - 11 Looks remarkably similar to a certain franchise I know. Additionally, WJ gets a lot of criticism for focusing on the WSS deal. Well, since revenue has been on everyone?s mind the last few weeks, I think it is clear, that having a Stadium is key to ensure financial stability for a franchise. Here are the top 10 teams in revenue: Washington Redskins New England Patriots Dallas Cowboys Philadelphia Houston Texans Cleveland Browns Denver Broncos Carolina Panthers Tampa Bay Buccaneers Chicago Bears Every team on that list (with the exception of the Cowboys?who have other sources of income?.they came up with the idea of a team store before anyone else) has either a new stadium or recently renovated stadium. The bottom line is that Woody has been learning these last 6 years and is now staring to establish himself as owner of the team and perhaps a leading among NFL owners. Give him a chance?.he is getting better. DbJ
I saw the commisioners press conf. highlights at 10pm on the NFL network. He said that Woody and Kraft had one plan and Pitts. and the Ravens had another. The Giants and several other teams backed the Jets/Patriot plan, some the other plan and others undecided. Eventually between 3-6pm they combined the best of both plans and came up with the one that was approved. It sounded like Woddy played a fairly large part in the resolution of the problem. Which is great to hear since we typically are laughed at in general. Maybe the winds of change are blowing. The only thing I read that concerns me is a quote from Woody in the Asbury Park Press (Ocean, Monmouth Cty, NJ paper) that said something to the effect, This was a very expensive deal for us and now we will have to work harder to make it up....... How does Woody make more money? By charging the faithful more.
Hopefully he meant work harder on getting the stadium done. I couldn't be happier with the direction of the Jets this offseason. Woody becoming more vocal. Letting go of over the hill players. Though we haven't made any yet, hopefully smart trades! Restructuring overpaid players. He hasn't had a chance to win a Championship to Hempstead since Herm left, but everything he has done is positive!
