I agree. I would not have played field position down by 8 there. We just had the ball for about 6 minutes or so. AND, it was not like, it was 2nd and 1, then 3rd and 1 and then 4th and 1. We moved the ball two times in a row. Should have gone there. Mangini made a mistake.
Chad's the one that seemed to call the play off. Not Mangini. But, in this I agreed with the decision. It was a little too far for a secure FG. We had a lot of time and only one score down. The Bills would have gotten a large boost if they stopped us. (Which they did because of the next possession fumble anyway.) The punt wasn't good enough. Defense did "good enough". But, then the fumble..... Big problem was the Chad fumble....
I have a feeling that Chad tries extra hard to avoid getting hit in games against Buffalo. I think they're in his head like that. And after such a long rehab from that first surgery I guess it's understandable. I say they shoulda' tried the QB sneak right there and just sold out on the push at the line. And if we didn't get it at least we went out swinging. Instead, we played pu$$yball and the rest is history...as they say.
When it was 21-13 on the drive before the half... I noticed a pretty open Baker at the 304 endzone. I thought Chad was passed the line of scrimmage... but he could of hit him for 6 on that play to at least cut it to 21-19.
That's why I love my seats. We saw it and saw that he not only was open but that Chad had a clear view of Baker.
I agree 100%. At the game we ALL thought he was going for it.. And when he didn't you could hear the energy and motivation for the win just blow right out of the stadium.
I bet that every week you can find good coaches making decisions that end up not going the way they intended them to - and everyone else who will scratch their heads and say "what was he thinking". But, it is a little drama-queenish to suggest that the rest of your season is over because of one decision. They got outplayed badly on both sides of the ball, that is all. Wasn't the first time it has happened this year, and it may not be the last. Don't be so quick to throw in the towel. Everyone went off the deep end when we lost to Jax this badly, but we have won some games since then. Until we are eliminated there is a chance of pulling it through. :jets:
Well I was giving you kudos for not making excuses for the loss like others have & stating the facts that we whomped cause our O & DLine played so poorly
If you thought this game ended the season, then you thought we had to go 11-5 to have a chance for the playoffs, the loss hurt but it didn't kill our season, we all knew that we could only afford 1 loss in these last 4 games, only thing we lost was our margin for error. TGG loses faith way too damn quickly, and I'd say everyone was equally at fault for this loss, Chad was bad, the oline had one of their worst performance for the entire season, and the defense was a doormat, even special teams wasn't very good, and the coaching staff was completely outcoached in this game, we'll learn from this loss and move on whether to the playoffs or build up our team in the offseason so we will compete next year
@ 11-5 = We were in @ 10-6 = We Do NOT control our PO Hopes. With 4 wins we were in control. With the Loss We hold ZERO control of our Future and need help within the next 3 weeks . In reality of Course we are Mathematically alive but we are on the Outside looking in and JAX is one of the Teams that we'd have to flat out have a better record than in a head to head. We have to pray for a 3 way. Unfortunately if we ask Santa for that, We'd end up with a DVD of Teagan Presley and Belladonna. Hard to resist but I'd trade that in for a Chance at the SB...
That botched 4th and 1 looked like it was going to be a trick play where the idea was Chad walks off like the play isn't gonna happen and then the Bills defenders are like "Well, it's not gonna happen" and start meandering around and then - BAM - Brad Smith lines up behind center and gets the snap. But the Bills didn't fall for it.
That's what I was thinking too, but if so there needed to be a better Plan B than punting into the end zone for a net gain of 19 yards. I understand Mangini said Plan B was to pin them back, but if you can't execute it you might as well try the 4th and 1. The only good thing is they didn't burn a timeout.
I couldn't agree with the intial post any more. I feel like going for it on 4th and 1 from the 39 was a decision a 1st grader could make. It made no sense to punt it. The best case scenario, if Graham pins them deep on about the 5 yard line, we stop them 3 and out,and they punt it we are going to get the ball at the 50 anyway, that is only a 11 yard difference, and that is if everything about punting it works out perfectly. Plus add in the fact that we were running the ball effectively. Now for the thing that makes even less sense: Why on earth would you not even line up to go for it to try to draw the defense offsides? Chad walked away as the play clock ran out,so the Bills knew for sure we weren't going for it. I was at the game and when Mangini made the decision I thought Herman Edwards never really left the Jets.
As for the season being over, I think I agree. For the Jets to beat the Vikings (excellent run D), Miami (D playing very, very well) and Oakland (excellent D - forced 3 Palmer INTs) Chad has to have 3 very good to excellent games in a row. I just don't see that happening. The most good games he has had back-to-back is two, the first two of the season. (Chad had a good statistic game against NE, but the Jets were out of it early and rallied on some great catch-and-runs by Cotcher and Coles.)
We didn't have a lot of time to fuck around, either. Chad ran as far as he could, got down, bounced up with the timeout call and we got Nugent on the field for 3. Take a dumb chance there and you come away with nothing.
