Obviously we need a pass rusher and Douglas hinted that he wouldn't be against trading draft capital for the right person... who is Clowney. Today Clowney fired his agent but also:

Not ideal at all, but hopefully that doesn't mean TOO much...

If that's still the price, Douglas should be jumping all over it.

I'm guessing the Texans gave him permission to meet with the Dolphins? Even so, that's pretty irregular.

The Texans probably view that as a punishment

It would be a great move for this Jets team. He fills a need and would elevate this defense.

Now or never man, you got 75 year old Brady as a sitting duck in the pocket and this dynamic pass rusher ready and available with the flexibility to make a move like this

This doesn’t fit into the direction the Dolphins are taking. The only year he’s under contract is a year where they’ve already committed to rebuilding and playing young guys.

It’d be hilarious if they moved Tunsil for this. I’m all for it.

I'm guessing he either stays a Texan or goes to the NFC.

I also don't get why Clowney wants to be in Miami unless they've promised him they'll make him the highest paid pass rusher next offseason.

    Is he that dynamic though?
I’m torn on this one, if they give up a one I would be disappointed.

No state income tax is a pretty big incentive.

I don't think he's coming here guys...I don't think were going to mortgage valuable draft picks. Especially since the draft is our GM's specialty....also cap implications. We are going to have all these expensive vet contracts--which will force us to have to start making difficult cuts when we get strapped for cash.

I see a more Colts like approach: find under the radar mid range free agents with unique skill sets and have coaching staff put them into advantageous schemes

I totally disagree. It would be one thing if the Jets could negotiate a long-term contract with Clowney, but they can't. It would be another if they had the cap space, but they don't. They'd have to kick money down the road and that's always risky, or cut a couple of higher-paid players and that would create a hole or holes somewhere else and still wouldn't leave room to sign a CB, K or for emergencies during the season. Trading a 2 for Clowney at this point would be one of the worst possible things Douglas could do imo.

For a one-year rental? No way. It would be a terrible move.

The GM has never drafted period, now it's his specialty?
He's stated 3 times, as recently as yesterday that he's open to trading for any player that would improve the roster this year.
He's also stated that he feels we are in win now mode and he intends to capitalize on having Darnold on his first contract. The expensive vet contracts are exactly how you take advantage of Darnold's rookie deal....

Texas doesn’t have state income tax either.

Oh how badly I wish that Khalil Mack was on the trade block this year. A lot of things have been lining up for us lately but the timing on that one was just a year off.

I can respectfully disagree with you here. Joe D 100% has a background in college talent evaluation and drafting--not to mention that he was developed in a draft 1st front office in Ozzie's Baltimore Raven's. That program has utilized drafting and not free agency for years. The Eagles have made some big trades one could argue, but still plenty of emphasis on drafting. Letting premium picks go is not a preference for that type of philosophy.

I agree with you in regards to still being on Darnold's rookie contract, but the other side of the coin is that our drafting has been atrocious in recent years which means we have relied on high ticket free agents in a lot of places, which could be prohibitive in bringing in more high priced free agents.

Time will tell on the Clowney trade or any big name trade for this year--if we make one I will be optimistic though and will be more than happy to admit I was wrong!
