Report: Andrew Luck retiring from NFL Posted by Michael David Smith on August 24, 2019, 9:33 PM EDT Getty Images In the most stunning story of the year in the NFL, Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has reportedly decided to retire. Luck will announce his retirement on Sunday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. After dealing with a leg injury throughout training camp and the preseason, Luck is described as mentally worn down and ready to walk away. The news comes as a complete shock: Luck has been widely regarded as one of the sport’s prototypical franchise quarterbacks since his days at Stanford, and when the Colts selected him with the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft, they believed they had an All-Pro quarterback for years to come. Luck had great success early in his career, leading the Colts to the playoffs in each of his first three seasons. But a shoulder injury cost him the entire 2017 season, and although he played well in 2018, he wasn’t the same quarterback. The leg injury this year has apparently made him question his love for the game, and now he’s ready to walk away, in what may be the most shocking retirement in NFL history. Share this:
His body is just destroyed. Shoulder injury, had a bone injury and ankle injury this season already. He took a massive beating in the beginning of his career and never recovered. Time to build the Great Wall in front of Sam.
I don't even know what to make of this, this is one of the most stunning announcements I have ever seen. The Colts ruined this guys career, it's a sad story.
I know it isn't Jets news, but I just saw this too. Holy sh*t!! I thought if he was healthy they were one of the few teams that could unseat the Patriots this year in the AFC. Wow.
Always felt he was kind of a fake douchebag. Not going to miss people penciling him into the conference championship every time he got "healthy".
It's amazing in retrospect that draft class. Wilson and Cousins drafted outside the first round outlast Luck and RG3. Guess this also ends the debate on who the best QB from that class is.
Probably boosts our chances at a wild card spot if we’re being brutally honest. Still, stunning to see one of the league’s best players call it so abruptly. This sucks for the league and for fans of the game.
The 2012 QB draft class was the most hyped in recent times, Andrew Luck and RG3 never brought a title to their teams despite all the hype in the world. Ryan Tannenhill and Brandon Weeden were busts. Nick Folk, Russel Wilson, and Brock Osweiler (He did contribute by beating the Pats) won Super Bowls, none of them were drafted in the first round. It just goes to show that you never know, ever. Also weirdly enough, Skip Bayless was right; he proclaimed at the time the Colts would be better served keeping Peyton for a few seasons rather than going with Luck for a decade +.....I still believe to this day that if Peyton wasn't in Indy he would have had more success, that organization is a shit hole that won the lottery twice and had everything going for them for two decades; 1 Super Bowl title to show for, just 1. Watch the Colts end up with the #1 pick again, is next years draft class good?
Also, while I think Mac did some decent things while he was here (especially towards the end) this tweet highlights why he needed to be replaced with Douglas. Once we got the QB, we needed a GM that values the o-line before Mac became Darnold’s Grigson.
