Holy shit, he just has to be screwing with us now, right? He knows he's gone at the end of the season, so he's going to try to troll as many reporters as he can before the only managing job he'll ever have is taken away from him.

Callaway: "I bet 85 percent of our decisions go against the analytics, and that's how it's always going to be." That certainly explains a hell of a lot. I'm quite sure that this is complete bullshit, since the overwhelming majority of what analytics implies is exactly what is routine strategy, but the fact that this moron would be proud to say something this idiotic tells you all you need to know about his competency as a manager.

Or he knows that the WIlpons don't want to pay a manager's salary to go fishing and play golf

Callaway almost single-handedly cost them the game. No reason at all to have Gagnon out that long and sticking with him after giving up several runs. WTF is wrong with Callaway???

More brilliant announcing by Apple (and this time Keith) - it's obvious that Davis was limping after beating out the hit, and that's why they took him out. We'll be hearing about his injury some time tonight.

And someone in the booth tells them what idiots they are and now they say it.

Always knew Gary Cohen was good, but these few days without him have been incredibly painful.

Looking at their schedule against a team like KC the Mets needed all 3 games. Teams in the race with them are winning.

We all knew that the most likely outcome would be that this tough stretch would be enough to knock them out of the race (especially after McNeil got hurt), so this is hardly a surprise. Too bad - meaningful games in August is nice, but I really was hoping for meaningful games in September.

I hope Davis can be nursed up here and won't have to go on the IL.

Alonso breaks the NL rookie record for home runs with his 40th of the season. He still has a shot at Judge's record, although I'll be surprised if he gets it.

Of course, he did it in a game against an AL team, so what exactly does a league record mean nowadays?

If we can come out of the Indians then Braves within 3 games of the WC, we have nothing to complain about. Back to back series against the Cubs and Phillies will either close that gap or make it a pipe dream.

With a 6 run lead(as of now) he should put Diaz in the 9th.

Stroman out after 4 innings with left hamstring tightness. Hands of the bullpen the rest of the way. EEK!

Should have let Lugo pitch another inning. Might even be a better hitter than Altherr.
