Fitz would've won the job over lazy/dumb Geno in 2015 anyway. That punch gets so overrated

Well it would've helped for him to end up with a rebuilding team with an actual plan or a contender where he could be brought along properly as a backup before taking over for an aging starter. Instead he was thrown to the wolves on a then totally directionless joke Cardinals team and is now on a garbage talentless fish team.

He had great fundamentals coming out of college in terms of mechanics and such. But yea ending up in two horrible situations will break a guy who's not mentally tough...and that was definitely something that was whispered about Rosen.

Ha. You read stuff like this and just wonder if Rosen is long for the NFL. Where's the passion. Where's the leadership? Where's the urgency?

He also had red flags coming out of UCLA (and why 9 other teams passed on the supposedly "most pro ready" QB and why he was the 4th QB taken).

He had red flags, but was still the best pure passer in that class.

Also just shows how much Darnold improved from his last year at USC to now. Mechanics wise, its night and day.

Even if the coaches don't like him, you know at some point that Ross will force them to start him in some games.

I remember during the draft the "experts" had Darnold going to Cleveland and many had the Jets taking Rosen. So glad we ended up with Darnold as our QB.

When did I say he wasn't a pure passer? Or 'best' pure passer? Only mentioned his 'red flag' issues at UCLA. Put simply: when Stanford (whom Rosen himself described as his "dream school") passed on him, that said something.

As for Darnold's mechanics, improved yes but "night and day" suggests he was something altogether different while at USC and to be honest 101GG101 I can't go there...

I'm not disagreeing with you, just saying he was the best pure passer in that draft. Sometimes douchebags end up being good QBs.

His ball security from his last year in college to his rookie year was an astronomical improvement. Keeping 2 hands on the football, doing those little things. Also his "windup" is barely noticeable now, that motion got so damn quick. Its more compact. That saves time. The difference between a TD and a fumble.

Hopefully that is at the 4:09 mark.

Half of the teams that passed on him didn't need a QB. Arizona even had to move up a little to snag him. Yeah his attitude / cockiness was the big red flag, and talent can overcome those attributes sometimes. We'll see how his career goes, he hasn't exactly been put in great situations so far.

Yep, by risking injury by trying to plow a defender in the preseason. If he starts this season, he'll be out after a couple games.

Fitz has been doing this for years and somehow, aside from a broken leg in Houston, he doesn't get hurt. Only the QBs ahead of him on the depth chart get hurt. He's got a voodoo doll in his beard.

We will get a chance to see him start at least 1 maybe 2 games against us. He's getting more snaps with the first team. I wouldn't be surprised if he's starting on opening day.

He's been lucky, he takes a lot of unnecessary risks. His broken thumb may have cost us the playoffs in 2015. If Geno didn't play most of the Oakland game, who knows what happens.

And he magically transfers those risks to whoever's ahead of him on the depth chart. Voodoo beard.

He's kind of like a less fragile less athletic version of Michael Vick. For one reason or another just refuses to slide and do the safe thing.

I had the Miami feed for last nights game. Rosen looked terrific. Completely different body language from last year under pressure. It was garbage time but he had no real protection and he was throwing to backups. Fitz looked like Fitz. He's a backup QB.

Looking at Miami's schedule and lack of OL I can see Fitz starting the first 4 games and protecting Rosen until after the bye. Their first 4 are Ravens, Pats, Cowboys and Chargers. With that OL it's really not in Miami's interest to evaluate Rosen in a fire drill.

It's a smart plan to get a good look at Rosen and make a longer term decision at QB. Rosen isn't losing the QB competition. Anyone who thinks that misses what's really going on in Miami. It looks like they actually might have a plan to develop him.

There really hasn't been a competition, Rosen wasn't given many reps with the ones throughout camp. He's getting some opportunities now. Agree with your assessment . They have a plan to get him in after week 4.
