And he has to adjust to that

Gregg Williams has to understand that a hyper aggressive defensive does not work for our personnel. We can't get there blitzing. We haven't been able to get there blitzing (or in any way shape or form) since the Herm days when we had a few pass rrushers. It doesn't matter how many guys he sends...every guy will be picked up as he's been picked up since 2005. We send 9 with a 5 man line....blitz picked up. Like clockwork. Like I'm watching now. 1st team, 2nd team, 3rd team. Doesn't matter

Our secondary needs to be protected. You cannot leave guys out there to cover for more than 1 second. They still don't know how to turn their heads around. Every 3rd and forever you see the Jets send the house. The house gets picked up by two guys, and players running free and easy in the secondary.

Williams has got to cool it with the crazy aggression. Every 3rd and 15 is an automatic 1st down for the opposition

I mean we are talking about 3rd and 4th string players here....We barely saw anything from the starters yet.

Pretty sure it’s easier to not tip your cover schemes by blitzing all the time. Not much tape to read the defense when we blitz.

But hey guys let’s spend $17 million/ year for a good, not great inside linebacker. That will surely fix our defensive woes! Macagnan = Idzik.

What im noticing is a bad group of players on the 3rd and 4th string...Both sides of the ball are hard to watch..

Our 2nd stringers weren't all that impressive either

I have high hopes for the O. Much improved. But I fear Williams may be too stubborn and try to square peg/round hole this. Really I don't see much of any kind of pass rush materializing with what we have

I'm really seeing a lot of Mac garbage still hanging around out there. Guys who can't cover, who are low IQ players. Who have no real noticeable strengths.

We should have put Darnold back in to start the 4th.

Also have to say...the penalties. Definitely some lingering stupidity from the Toilet/Mac regime...remain. The discipline isn't there yet. And of course this is not at the feet of Gase and Douglas but it needs to be cleaned up

People say well...2nd stringers, 3rd stringers etc. The NFL is a league riddled with injuries. Year in year out. You like to see some measure of competence even from lesser talented guys.

Yes some of these guys will literally be bagging groceries, but plenty of 3rd stringers end up in critical roles due to a position being decimated by injury

I just hope Williams realizes he has to tailor the scheme to the personnel. Next few years ok we can add guys who work best in his scheme, but for this season Williams cannot be hyper aggressive.

He has to mask this secondary. Not trust it blindly

The Starting Defense played 3 plays and forced a 3 and Out. This thread is ridiculous.

Facts and the Giants continued to play their starters against our 2nd/3rd stringers when Brown was in there.

Giants must have forgot they play us this year. What a bunch of ass-kicking suckers they are.

Which is idiotic, I’m old enough to remember when we’d complain when Rex did it.

I liked the way we picked up a loose ball and ran it in for 6.

Yes, it was called back, but it shows William's insistence that EVERY loose ball be picked up, even incomplete passes (in TC) is working.

This alone is an improvement over Bowles.

You guys are way smarter than me and while I was disappointed in the defense tonight it seemed like 1 drive with starters and the rest were folks who will be bagging groceries

And I don’t mean that as a douche

These players to be cut are zillions of times better than I could have ever been

Yeah I was happy to see Darnold direct a TD drive and then hit the bench. We can’t get too worked up over the first preseason game. A lot of garbage out there with vanilla schemes.

Hey, it’s preseason for all of us too This thread is reasonable and insightful analysis, except for the fact that it’s a preseason game with key players missing.
