Of course the star players make more in any sport, that was nowhere near the point. The point was the majority of the players are not going to see any increase in income so it would make no sense for them to want to have a longer season. You also said that ticket revenue would increase 12.5% but only about 10% of all ticket sales are single game tickets so I'm not doing the math but if many of those 10% were already being bought for preseason games, they might get more for the tickets but I think you might be looking at closer to a 1.25% increase in ticket revenue than 12.5% Yes, the majority of revenue comes from tv and media but the last time the broadcast contracts were redone they increased 150%, so 2 more games would add value but to just guess the increase in revenue would be another 12.5% is just that, a guess.
I think all players would see an increase, but it's a moot point. It's not going to happen under the current CBA and not with the proposed structure of players only participating in 16 of 18 games. It's something that will probably be discussed during the 2021 lockout, but even then it's not likely
So, either Davis Webb ($5 on StubHub) . or, . Sam Darnold getting his ass handed to him playing behind some 2nd stringers of an already so-so line? Sure, .what's another 50 years... .
Most teams only carry 7-8 line man. Not enough for a full 2nd string line. I’ve been trying to think how a coach would manage this. My first thought is throw away the Thursday night game. I would sit as many players as I could for that game, starting with my qb. I think from there I just watch the schedule and try to pick that game I think I can win with out the rest of the stars, next would be an out of conference game as they mean the least.
They are not going to get rid of the bye week. That’s still a week of football they are selling to the networks.
So you envision a 19 week season plus a couple of pre-season games? Are the 18 game season details laid out anywhere?
Have to remember this is the Jets we are talking about, almost all of our line are 2nd string. One other thing, what do they do for punters and place kickers, are teams going to carry 2 of each?
nah, they wouldn't carry 2 specialists. They would spread the 4 games across the season and just sign a guy to kick for a week. There could be kickers that get 16 games but spread across numerous teams just for the week(s) they have to sit their starting kicker. like a full-time temp worker
Vegas won't like it. It would make it too difficult to set spreads, too difficult to split the betting. There would be games where the house wins big but also games where the house gets its ass kicked. They don't like that. I don't see it happening
I haven’t seen an exact layout but yes I envision 2 preseason games a 19 week regular season and the super bowl to be played Presidents’ Day weekend.
is it 18 reg season with 2 or 3 preseasons???? i guess most fans would love another game or 2 but the NFLPA surely would not approve. any takers for a 17 game sked with 3 preseasons?? can u schedule that appropriately?
Id rather see more practice time incl. in pads to decrease the soft tissue injuries, improve the quality of play in terns of fundamentals & give teams a chance to better develop younger players
