the narrative from the various national media outlets I've seen is that the Jets will be "interesting for the first time in long time"

maybe its a safe way of saying they think the Jets could be good?

They've upgraded almost every unit of the team (I'm not sold on the coach.... but Bowles sucked anyway) so we'll see. I still think the O-line needs work, and a better CB, and this team could be very good if Darnold takes the "next step"

I think they could hide the weaknesses you ID'ed. On offense by spreading the defenses out and on defense by using safeties in coverage.

whether they do hide their weaknesses effectively is another question... I just think its possible

    I really like CJ

Good teams need a couple of those guys so that whining and complaining doesn't take a life of it's own. yes shit will happen; get it off your chest; now back to work

That’s what it comes down too. We’ll be as good or as bad as Darnold is.

Because pre season power rankings hold as much meaning to reality as pre season power rankings of all 32 helmet logos.

Here’s something that has meaning: having an offensive line. Which they don’t. And Crazy Eyes Hirsh hasn’t done squat to improve it. They go into the season with this line, Darnold is done by game 6 and Bell will come up with an “injury” and sit the remainder when he realizes he can’t run. Put that on a helmet

Here's the funniest party of all of thi OL stuff. We ranked in the top half of the league. Pass protection ranked even higher. Given our C had an injured hand, new talent with OK and other than depth the complaints are wasted. Just like the crying that Darnold will be dead by week 6. Last year it was week 3, 4,5 or who knows which week but he was going to die one of them. Cleveland would kill him, if he survived Detroit. Jax, no chance he would survive. Von Miller was licking his chops. Minny would kill him. Then how would he make it out of Chicago. Still had JJ Watt to deal with. Never happened, but with an improved OL lets rewind and replay the same predictions of his impending death.

QBs get hit, it only takes one, isnt always the fault of the OL

Who's crazy eyes hirsh? If that's Gase, duh, why would he be the one who should be improving the talent in the OL? Did you get the memo, we have a GM. LOL

They should be sleeping on the Jets. The Jets have been garbage since 2011. You do the math. Until they prove they belong with the contenders, every team shouldn't lose a wink of sleep worrying about a team that's 50-78 since 2011 lol.

No. The damage was already done in the 1st half. Too much of a deficit to overcome. 2 reasons why we lost that game:

    1) A 17 play drive that ultimately ends with zero points.

    2) The Jets defense was unable to keep Ben in the pocket. He killed the Jets with scrambling for positive plays.

But yet they're smart enough to see that the additions to other teams, like this years Browns team changes what was said about them going into 2018 to what they now expect and are prediction for 2019.

Its commonly done, no excuse for not seeing how the additions theyve made, the changes theyve made, the strong finish over the last 5 games from Darnold, should change the Jets outlook for 2019.

It baffles me that the Browns are receiving so much more hype than the Jets. It’s largely based on their 5-2 stretch to finish the season, where they lost to both playoff teams they played and had 2 wins over Jeff Driskel, a win over Case Keemun and a win over Cam Newton without his throwing shoulder. The head coach of the team during that span now works for the Jets.

In Mayfield’s 13 starts the Browns averaged 23 PPG. In Darnold’s 13 starts the Jets averaged 22.15 PPG. Mayfield broke the rookie TD record, but he had 4 years of college experience and is the same age as Jared Goff (entering 4th season) as opposed to Darnold who is as young as Daniel Jones and Dwayne Haskins (entering rookie seasons) and started 2 years in college. Darnold has much more room to make a year 2 jump than Mayfield.

Both teams added an elite offensive weapon (Bell/OBJ) and some defensive pieces (Mosley/Quinnen and Sheldon/Vernon). Both teams hired an offensive head coach to bring the most out of their 2nd year quarterback.

I have no idea why most sportsbooks have the Browns with the 5th highest odds to win the Super Bowl behind last year’s conference championship participants. They should be looked at in the same light as the Jets: a fringe playoff team with the potential to make more noise if the QB turns into a star.

My sentiments exactly. The Browns, know its a stroke job as soon as they call them "Brownies" have sucked so much, for so long they just want to be right about such an overwhelming long shot I guess. And then theres the Jets, just promoted as the 31st best NFL roster. Dumb asses

I like the additions to this team. I would think more confidently of our chances if we had gotten another addition to the O-Line. If we had gotten Paradis along with Kelechi, I would think we have a solid shot at 9-7 or 10-6. Without this and our coach being an X factor, I am not sure what to make of this team.

because sports books are not worried about being right they are trying to be rich. now, a team like the jets you can post long odds and get enough action on it due to population, there is enough jet fans willing to throw some small bet down on jets at 100/1 to make some money there. the browns at 100/1 a bunch of blue collar Clevelanders probably don't think about buying that lotto ticket. browns at 20/1? well now you have a fan base excited, feeling good and willing to put some money down.
when you don't think the odds make sense, just remember they are made to make dollars

But doesn’t it seem backwards? If you’re trying to draw action on a team wouldn’t it make sense to undervalue their odds? As a better I’d be much more interested in the Browns at 100/1 than 20/1.

If the goal of a sportsbook is to entice as many incorrect bets as possible (which it is) they should be fading the Browns with longer odds and drawing in people engrossed in the media hype to place bets. The fact that they have such high odds to win it all makes me think that the sportsbooks might actually agree the team is a contender and is guarding themselves against huge payouts.

I think the sportsbooks genuinely believe the Browns are better than the Jets. Mayfield's stats on the whole were better than Darnold's. Gregg Williams may have been the head coach, but the improved offense under Kitchens was much more responsible for the wins than anything Williams did. Not sure how much age matters for a 2nd year jump, Wentz was an older rookie and he made the jump. OBJ is more valuable than Bell because he's a WR and Bell is a RB. Finally, the Bronws have more talent than the Jets overall (see OL and CB).

Having said that, I still think the Browns are overhyped. Touchdowns aside, Mayfield's rookie season wasn't that good. Prescott and Watson were better as rookies, and RG3 was better than all of them. Plus the Browns took advantage of a soft schedule and being overlooked to a certain extent. Let's see how they do now with the whole league gunning for them.

everyone is kissing the browns asses. I think they will regret that.

they are a powder keg anyway, lose a couple games early and they will implode. Our Jets have a great chance to spark that implosion. Week 2, MNF, the Browns have been the talk of the offseason. They lose to the 4-12 Jets and the players will start pointing fingers at each other
