Forgive me if this has already been mentioned.

Personally I feel like this would be a win win for all involved. He gets more family time and Darnold gets his mentor in a sense back. You cannot discount continuity and you have to believe that they have some great chemistry (see hair flip)

But really though I'd be absolutely stoked if he decided to come on as a special advisor. He loves Sam and that cannot be overlooked.

    Let's make it happen Gang!

Mr McCowen, do you really think it’s proper to try and solicit a job through a fan website?

Not a bad idea but please pay attention to thread titles. If something didn't happen, don't start a thread as if it happened.

Sure. Career Loser Advisors are always welcome. You were not talking about paying him were you?

Hell, if we could pay Fitz $10mil, what's McCown worth?

Nope, we are trying to build a winning culture for once. Having SlepRock hanging around would just bring the vibe down, He's lost everywhere he suited up....everywhere.

Sam does't need McCown at this point. He needs to develop his own game, and Gase is the guy to take him to that next level. I'm saying that Gase will succeed, but that's precisely why he was hired. But if there is a need for any other "mentor", I'd rather have Peyton Manning fill that role.

Doug Pederson... 3-14 as a starting QB, 55% completion, 12 TDs, 19 INTs.

    You are so right.

Why not just make him a coach instead of a special advisor? It does seem like he and Sam get along well. That could be useful as time goes on.

    Fine by me

Many, many “losing” or “low ceiling” former players make the best coaches. Their brain is on point, but the talent is not equivalent.

Often times those elite HOF guys suck at mentoring because they can’t decouple their talent from the player talent.

    No.
Gase has said he wants to be the only voice in Darnold's ear.
There's nothing that McCown can teach Darnold at this point. He doesn't know the offense or terminology. Last season he was familiar with Bates and Darnold was a rookie. Don't see a role for McCown here now

That's it in a nutshell. There's no point except for fans to think Sam will be in a comfortable cocoon being surrounded by people he likes.

Although I think people get hung up on the W-L records of former players that end up in coaching roles. It's not all that common for great players to be great coaches. Most coaches either didn't play at a high level in the NFL or didn't play at all in the NFL. Hell, the Cowboys just hired a guy as their OC that we watched the Jets beat with Ryan Fitzpatrick the last time they played them.

Yep. Some guys who can't play the game well can coach it like nobody's business!

What was Gase's record when he was an NFL starting QB?
