Crazy, but we should all be thanking Chris Johnson right now. Without him, we don't get Joe Douglas

Yeah, we all know CJ isn't great at public speaking, timing of firing Mac was a little fishy but I truly believe if Woody were here, we wouldn't have Joe Douglas as a GM.

Thank you CJ! Times are changing, it's our time now.

According to Chris Mortensen on Golic and Wingo this morning it's actually Woody who was the key in ultimately getting Douglas - when Douglas turned them down Chris contacted Woody and asked what he should do. Woody asked "Is this the guy?", and when Chris said yes Woody told him to do anything he could to to get him.

I just listened to the podcast, looks to be the case ... I still give CJ plenty of credit ... specifically during the interview processes searching and choosing the GM. Do we really give CJ that much less credit because he wanted to inquire on the $$$? He still picked out the guy he wanted... Douglas was def low-balled however.

Nah the Johnsons combined are not that smart. Before anointing JD wait at least 1 season & 1 draft before making him out to be god

Technically, I think the credit should go to Adam Gase and Sam Darnold. I doubt Douglas would have any interest without them. Nice that Christopher Johnson went all out to get the job done though. The Jets are finally on the right track.

I didn't think the Johnsons had it in them. I thought they'd lowball Douglas and end up settling for Fitterer. Based on reports that were coming out, I think that's what was happening. Something tells me Gase wasn't having that though. But probs to the Johnsons for getting it done, ass-backwards as it was. And maybe Gase isn't all that bad, considering Douglas just chose to come here.

I never said that CJ deserves less credit than he's been getting, just that the idea that Woody has nothing to do with what is going on is apparently untrue, at least in this case, and ultimately it was Woody who pushed to keep going after Douglas.

That was an open ended question to add to the discussion, not putting words in your post. CJ thought Douglas was the guy from the start, when things broke down due to $, Woody told him to do whatever it takes. Did Woody have the extensive knowledge on Douglas? We don't know, but on that podcast, Mortensen mentioned that Woody said this: "is that the guy?" sounds to me like Woody wasn't as involved during the interview process, but did get involved late as CJ needed guidance.

In the past, GMs would just turn us down and we would settle for someone else. This feels different, something about it. That's all I am saying. I feel like Woody would've fucked this up, but thats just me.

C'mon guys. We all know how it went down.

Gase realizes that Maccagnan is a tree stump.
Gase badgers CJ to dump his sorry ass.
Gase tells CJ to hire his buddy Joe.
    Gase gets his guy.

How does the $3M/yr compare to other GMs? What was Macc making? Seems low to me.

We should definitely thank him for Sam... I thought it was a great that we moved from 6 to 3 a month before the draft and not waiting till the 11 hour to make a trade.. my opinion it would have cost more waiting days or hours before draft night ...and staying at 6 I’m sure Sam would not be there... some other team would have offered the colts a deal since they were not in the QB market... I believe that’s why Mac lasted this long.... think about it.. his later rounds picks were just bad .... first year he drafted Ohio state WR D Smith BUST!! Hackenberg BUST !! These are second round picks!! that can’t happen!!! no offensive linemen in early rounds of his draft was a killer.... yes thank you for Sam but don’t let the door knob hit you on the way out !!

Maybe Woody learned something from Kraft stealing his lunch money.

I'm pretty pleased with how things shaped up. I wanted Bowles and Mac gone, and I like everything I've heard about Douglas. I will give Gase a chance, I don't care if he had an awkward introductory presser and I put zero stock into anything Manish Mehta says.

If it wasn't for the Johnsons fucking up the GM position for years, we wouldn't have needed Douglas. Sorry, but I'm not giving either one of them anything at all for finally getting their heads out of their asses after all these years. Its about fckn time they got shit right..
