But it bugs me that players don't show for voluntary workouts. Especially players that have something to prove after a sub-par season.
it does bug me, but that said there might be legit reasons why given players don't show or participate. Could be minor injuries they don't want to aggravate, or personal obligations that conflict. In the end what matters is that they're in shape, ready, and can fully participate in T.C. and the season. If they fall short in that, then I would look back to see if they skipped these other team activities and take action at that point.
Is Trumaine Johnson hurt? Is Leonard Williams hurt? I see that Quinnen Williams is hurt. Dumb kid showed up anyway.
Goodell's secret powers will injure all of our players before the preseason starts. He can't have the Jets begin to show signs of becoming a contender.
I can honestly say I would not show up for voluntary work outs either. I'm surprised any of them show up. It's great for the fans to get and early glimpse, and probably great for a new HC to see some of his players too. But they'll be playing 18 games soon (plus playoffs) so I can't really blame them.
Yeah...^ We have new coaches on both sides of the ball. How do you put a player in a position to succeed if the player ain't there?
Probably. I tend to forget things at my age...and I'm grumpy today. The board is so slow lately, I'm not working this week..yada yada. Let me know when I get Champ69 repetitive...
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/26530108/brady-bennett-skip-patriots-voluntary-workouts Pieces of crap... Honestly, it doesn't bother me at all. The workouts are voluntary for a reason and the people that didn't go were all established vets. I'd be concerned if it was the rookies or 2nd year players not showing up, but clearly that's not the case here.
Isn't Training Camp next month? Then they have to work and play non-stop until January/February? I don't mind them skipping. Especially those specific players. Jamal Adams, Leonard Williams, Kelvin Beachum, Trumaine Johnson and LeVeon Bell? Yeah, no biggie. If rookies or back-ups were skipping, you could question their desire to make the roster.
I really think there are a lot of factors to that--your injury history, how much of your contract (if any) is guaranteed, girlfriends/wives or even if you have a small child, your familiarity with the playbook, roster bubble players, etc. Everyone's situation is different, but all things considered I think the coach and staff would want you there, no matter what they say to the media.
Yup, bothers me. They don't have to do it - some will, some won't. I don't get the 'won't' guys, but it it is what it is. Hopefully it has no bearing on the big picture...
A LOT of what a player does is voluntary, from diet, to working out, studying the playbook in the eve, film study, sleep, etc etc etc. Only about 20% of a players life is 'mandatory', from training camp to pre-game walkthroughs. TomDeb kinda summed it up about right, every player is diff. Most will attend, a few wont. The minute the owners agreed to make OTA's voluntary it was bound to happen. I'm sure every team is missing a few guys.
One thing for sure about voluntary practices is that a marginal player who opts out has a real good chance of finding himself on the wrong side of the margin.
As long as they come into camp in shape both physically and mentally I’m fine. It would be nice to have everyone there, building chemistry but overall I rather these guys get ready their way so they can play to their fullest potential.
Also those vets not being here allows some guys who probably won’t make the team a chance to prove themselves. Could find a diamond in the rough because of this.
