Fontenot interviews Saturday before Douglas Sunday interview so if we like him then we can hire him on Sunday since Fontenot satisfies the Rooney Rule.

Perfection in a coach is not the point.
But the ability to motivate players, inspire players, or at least getting players to buy in is job #1 for a HC.
That's an area where Gase needs to improve, and not repeat some of the antics that have failed on him in the past.

Again how can you prove that?

Because a couple disgruntled players had an issue with him?

Other players were clearly motivated by him.

I’m not really seeing what antics you’re talking about.

What has he currently done with the Jets that make you suggest this?

    You’ve posted nothing tangible.

If you weren't drinking the Gase-aid, you got shipped out or benched for lesser talent.
Two seasons in a row the players quit on him, with the team losing to close out the seasons.

You have to find ways to motivate players, or they stop responding.
Taking the Mangini route tends to lead to Mangini results.

I'm not saying Gase cannot evolve, I'm just saying he needs to learn from past mistakes or the results will be similar to Miami.

I thought it was remarkable that with one of the worst rosters in pro-football that they actually beat the Jets twice, beat NE and the Bears and had a 4 and 2 record in our division with Brock Osweiler and a hobbled Ryan Tannehill spliting starts. The Dolphins last year had 3 to 4 wins written all over it.

What Gase needed was a 10 win roster. He had a 4 win roster that overachieved.

Not even close. I know I'm not qualified to run the Federal Reserve, that does not indicate I know who is.

I would suggest that no one here has enough information to select either a head coach or a general manager. We can only have our preferences based on the second hand, third hand and more remote information available to us.

I know we are excited about Douglas but I have to say it, why don’t the Eagles lock him up long term if he’s that great of a catch?

The Ravens locked up Decosta so he can follow Ozzie as the GM.

When I read the article and it delineated all the work Douglas does, it can’t be something anyone can just step in and do.

I’m hoping he’s the solution we have been looking for but the cynic in me can’t help himself.

It was more of DeCosta’s choice to stick in Baltimore rather than them keeping him.

I think the only job I’ve ever heard of him even entertaining was the Giants job.

The Eagles can't do that. If Douglas wants to leave to be a GM for another team, they have to let him leave. And the Ravens didn't keep DeCosta from leaving, he chose not to leave because he knew Newsome was going to retire soon, and he'd get to take over. But Roseman isn't going anywhere, so that doesn't apply to the current situation.

In 2011 he was made one of the highest paid assistants in football, and the Ravens made it public that he would be the successor to Ozzie, that was 8 years before he officially took over the job this year.

The Ravens could have allowed him to leave and not made such a commitment, they obviously knew his value hence why they locked him up.

I’m not trying to burst the bubble, just wondering why Eagles won’t lock him up if it’s true that he does invaluable work for them.

Most likely, the Eagles aren't offering Douglas the same thing as DeCosta because they know that unlike DeCosta, Douglas is going to leave no matter what they do. He wants to be a GM, and since Roseman is only 43 years old, he won't get that opportunity in Philly.

But the difference is he always knew he’d get his shot.

Douglas wants to run his own team.

I hear ya, Red, but maybe Douglas doesn't want to be locked long term in his present role. Maybe he wants the opportunity to be the GM, to make the tough decisions. Also, since Gase and he are close, that could be a very strong factor. It's very possible that they really enjoyed working together before, have the same philosophies, and thinks that with Gase and he partnering that they both can be very successful and have a lot of fun working together. He might also welcome the challenge that is the Jets. After all, the Jets have a good young QB who will most turn out to be a FQB and could be a perennial top 10 or even top 5 QB in the NFL, they have Adams, Bell, Osemele, Crowder and some other very good players, they have a proven and very successful DC, an innovative offensive-minded HC, and he knows that if he turns the Jets into a winner, he will be hailed as one of the top GMs in the game, and will be royalty in NYC.
