So basically the media was questioning him about stuff that the media itself drummed up as rumors? A lot of these "columnists" should not have jobs. Ironically this makes me trust Gase more as he at least appears to try to turn this team around. An urgency that we never saw from Bowles or Macagnan.
I believe that while he might not philosophically believe in paying big money for a RB, he's accepted that he has one and will use him. I also think that he believed they could've gotten Bell for less than Macc paid, which is not the same thing as saying "I didn't want him". I also believe he meant it when asked about trading Bell, that it's "ridiculous".
Macc and Bowles confused trusting the process with complacency. Macc was complacent and Bowles was never urgent to win. Gase isn’t here to play games or observe. He’s here to get shit done.
In related news Gregg Williams has been experimenting with erotic defensive packages. Edit: *exotic defensive packages
Thank you for this ^ I think Gase will win over the fans (and media) with his no bullshit approach...not that I give a shit about the media. Once the season starts it will be all business...that's the tone Gase is setting. It's been long overdue.
So far I'm loving Gase. Pure football guy. Not a bullshiter. And the way he shot the media down in that press conference was fantastic. Such a new look from Bowles
I liked what he had to say, seems like some people here want Gase to fail. Also, kudos for trading that useless piece of trash Darron Lee.
Excellent Presser ..imo Intelligent , verbal guy who summed it up..."fans care about winning" Handled all the hot garbage coming from press about power play vs MM Bell etc Players are focused Contrast this with the on the toilet monotone of Bowles and his excuses how it isn't a plan to win, "players win for you or lose for you" (takes no responsibility) So far Iam impressed ..guy won't be seen holding a coffee cup ..for sure! 4 months from now when we win some games we all will be looking back at this period and laughing
I just rewatched that press conference. I am fuckin STOKED to see what this team does this year! I honestly have not been this excited for a Jets season since the 2009/2010 years. There is just so much to be excited about: - Sam Darnold looking to take HUGE leaps in his sophomore year. - Le'veon Bell as our workhorse back. - Jamal Adams in the secondary. - CJ Moseley running the defense. - New offensive weapons. - A bad mother fucker as our DC. - A truly offensive minded Head Coach. And most of all, a coach who just wants to win games. Doesn't give a shit about any of this bullshit noise from the media, and just wants to coach and play football. He's right, win games and fans aren't gonna give a shit about anything else. This is a refreshing look right now
I've seen too many heartbreaks over the years to get my hopes up, but the things you listed are definitely things to be hopeful about. Thanks for that.
What's being missed is accountability of the GM. Gase says he needs a CENTER for Sammy and Mac says here's linebacker? There was a responsibility on the part of MAC. The OL has been neglected for years. A center was a source of enormous embarrassment just last season. It was of paramount importance to add a CENTER. Otherwise, why the fuck did you draft a QB? You obviously don't care about protecting your QB. This is not Gase's problem although it ultimately ends up being his problem. Gase was hired to coach the players, not pick players. He needs to HOPE the GM wants to satisfy his needs. True to form, Mac didn't care about responsibility or paramount importance or protecting the QB. He had his own timeline. It went something like, you'll get what you need over the span of years. in the end, that clearly isn't good enough and the Jets recent putred win/loss record reflects the poor job the GM has done.
