That was probably my favorite line. Also "I get paid to take the bullets", "that's ridiculous" in response to trading Bell and "I never once said that" in response to paying Mosley.
I like the guy more and more, I just hope he learned from his mistakes in Miami. That should shut the media up for a while.
I just don't get it. Adam Gase comes across well in that presser. What a relief after 4 years of Zombie Bowles. Can't wait for the season to start...it's gonna be fun!
You can tell by the way he answered that the Bell rumors are 100% true and the Mosley rumors are 100% false.
He kind of danced around the original questions about Bell although when he was directly asked if he thought Bell was overpaid he answered no. When he was asked about Mosley he was emphatic in his answer and even said something like he would’ve taken a pay cut to get it done. I came away believing the Albert Breer article on the situation that said Gase didn’t have a problem with Bell the player but doesn’t believe in paying RBs big money. It also said that Mosley was Gase’s top target in FA which is even more believable than it was then.
As the turmoil continues and the atmosphere in Jets land seems to become more toxic, which in my opinion was mostly driven by our infantile ownership and substantiated by a one dimensional ex GM, I see some saving grace with our HC. I'm becoming more and more impressed with Gase ability to handle the putrid NY media and to answer questions with knowledge and as much transparency as he can. I'm glad he is astutely pointing out that half of the rumors are pure BS, and has responded properly to the Bell rumor on his contract value. There is nothing wrong with his views that it was more generous that it needed to be, but these are personal feelings that needed to be kept inside the team environment. Obviously the Jets have a few rats that leak sensitive information to weasels like Metha at the detriment of the team. I hope Gase and the new GM exterminate them all.
Gase, and anyone for that matter, has the right to feel that way in regards to high payment of RB's. Because let's face it, stud backs can be found in the mid-rounds of draft. However, we were in a situation where we had the surplus of $ to spend on the TOP FA RB available; who when he's on his game is arguably in discussion for the leagues best. It's been said endless times, but it would have been a disaster if we weren't the team to land him. Gase went onto say he and Bell text all the time + the workout videos that he posts on IG, coach gets 'em first.
