To tag onto your comment, let's remember that there's no "cap" for FO hires. When you consider that, it's "pound foolish" to not spend money to get as much good football knowledge as you can. Manning's job, as I see it, would be to take the reins out of the hands of idiots, and to establish a vision to build the team around. He can advise on who to hire as GM, and let that GM do the nuts and bolts of building the team according to the blueprint. As a side benefit, Manning could perhaps be someone who can manage Gase and keep him from being the asshole that creates problems from himself.

All that said, I think it's too good to be true, and makes too much sense. Either Peyton won't be crazy enough to do it, or the Johnsons won't want to share the spotlight with him. I think we're stuck with Woody and Chris bumbling their way along.

This. Really hope there is an under-the-table deal in place for Douglas already & the Jets just have to comply with the Rooney Rule before announcing.

The year the Broncos won teh SB, Manning was TERRIBLE. I mean TERRIBLE. That was kind of a black mark

He was coming off serious neck surgery and could barely throw a football with any velocity, yet he was still better then the younger, healthier guys on the roster. I don't think anyone in football would call that anything but a gutsy showing by a battered old timer.

During the regular season he was worse than Osweiler. Which is saying something. Then he played okay against a beaten up Steelers team, channeled vintage Peyton to beat the Pats, and let the defense win the Super Bowl.

Outplayed Brady in the championship game tossing a couple early TDs...

If citing Winning super bowl as evidence of a black mark, that’s a pretty damn good career.

why not hire belicheat as the head coach while you are at it?

that way , you can put the team into the hands of two guys who walked away years ago.

bring in paoli and al groh while you're at it.:rolleyes:o_O:confused:

Maybe Woody will fly in from the old country, overrule his brother, and name Tim Tebow the new GM. Why not? He has the same qualifications as Manning does

there are a whole lot of fans in minnesota and buffalo who would trade one qb terrible game for the VLT.

  13. Manning still has a pulse on the NFL game as well as the talent pool starting from HS to college to the NFL bc of his passing camp & overall involvement in the college game.

Tebow catches high pops in port st lucy

Not even close to a good comparison. If your against it youd lean towards Matt Millen,Phil Jackson or Magic Johnson. If you believe in it John Lynch,John Elway & Danny Ainge are the poster children for success.

What has John Lynch done? The 49ers suck. Maybe they'll turn it around with Garoppolo, but maybe Lynch overpaid for a bust. Ainge is from a different sport, and Elway was great at first but has struggled since.

  15. I like what Lynch has done.Hes dramatically improved that team..we’ll see where its headed.

He & Elway are at least competent executives who arent in over their heads by any means

Finding a sure thing at GM is nearly impossible.

Who is this mysterious GM candidate that is cant miss? Id love Douglas but do we really know if he’ll really be better than Manning or anyone else for that matter?

It varies from organization to organization. As bad as the jets need big boy scouting & a vision they need a credible leader to take control at the top above all else.

No GM candidate is a guarantee, but I'd look at teams that have done well in the last few drafts and see if I can lure a Director/President/VP of player Personnel from one those teams. Those guys have a ton of say in the war room AFAIK.

  17. Thats exactly what we did when we hired MAC.Texans were widely considered most talented roster between 11-14ish. Same w Idzik coming from Seattle after their ascension.

Its bigger than trying to pinpoint scouting accomplishments behind the scenes bc at the end of the day all they do is scout the player & if lucky contribute to the draft board.Unless its the actual person pulling the trigger or theyve been second in command for a long time winner like Pitt/Balty..im avidly opposed to flavor of the month hires when its a guessing game in their true contributions

This is the guy that stayed another year in college just to stay away from the Jets. He is not a scout, never been a personnel guy either pro or college and never been a GM anywhere. So what exactly would he be bringing to the Jets other than his enormously big head? So with all that, they will probably hire him and keep the cycle of losing going on.

Then hire him as a coach, not GM were he is not qualified at all. X & O's he could help Darnold. Scouting and personnel requirement please show me where he's done any of that anywhere.
