It wouldn't have made any sense to fire Mac in January if Chris wasn't unhappy with him then or there was no problem at the time. You're usually much more reasoned and cautious in your responses. I think we all need to chill and wait and learn the facts before jumping to conclusions, calling it idiotic, stupid, etc.

No, it isn't! Your statement isn't even true. Teams trade up for players all the time, and those players didn't fall to them. Even when players do fall, GMs frequently make bad picks, just as Mac has done outside the 1st round with a few exceptions. Before you call someone's argument, you really need to have your facts straight.

Maybe CJ did order Mac to do as you suggest, and Mac ignored him. What was CJ going to do, fire Mac right before the draft?

  10. 100%.

When i say “top scout”thats what im referring to.Still evaluating talent but on more of a macro from team headquarters executive level type of perspective as part of the group of key decision makers.

Like say John Wooten, Dick Hailey, Gil Brandt or urg..Terry Bradway A.D.

If not, then it will just show how ignorant people can be! If you make two huge upgrades in your front office, that should be all that matters, unless it was done in some underhanded or disreputable fashion. As Kurt has so ably pointed out, this is the best time to fire a GM in terms of securing his replacement and giving him time to make plans and changes.

Only on a technicality. By all accounts the next GM will be a Gase guy.

Gase is going to be picking the players AND coaching them. Not sure how he is going to find the time allocation.

Good leaders can delegate and it seems he can’t delegate because “no one is capable” of doing the job right but him.

This is a flawed approach and destined to fail.

Is it really 3/4 of the league? The one thing I would suggest as a reason for why it would be incompetent for the Jets to do it is because we have two nincompoops for owners who know little or nothing about football. Other teams have knowledgeable, experienced owners and/or they have VPs of Football Operations who are experienced football men.

Douglass won't take the job to be a puppet. They are friends so the line of communication is going to be better; it doesn't mean they will agree on everything.

I totally disagree. It is Mac and Heimerdinger who didn't get along, so you're wrong that it means that Gase was allowed to come in here and be top dawg. I love how everyone is blaming Gase and not one person has even remotely suggested G. Williams. He could have been as much of the problem as Gase, if there was any problem there.

The situation didn't arise until just before the draft or afterwards, so this IS the right time to get rid of Mac and Heimerdinger. It hasn't put a gigantic target on Gase's back, either. I can't believe some of the wild stuff I'm seeing in this thread.

Why do I get the feeling this is the beginning of that volatility folks were referring to in the Jet hierarchy. Already twice the drama Rex ever had and they haven't even had a real practice yet. This isn't a clown car, its a clown bus taking the rubes to the circus for the matinee performance.

Rex was a clown and a doofus. Gase may be arrogant, but he's good with QBs, is a good offensive mind, and he should help this team. Also, it wouldn't necessarily be a matter of being "stuck" with Gase. The new GM would be limited in which HC prospect he could hire now anyway, and putting together a staff now, would be very difficult as well. In this way, he'd have a year to make plans and further evaluate potential candidates, and if Gase exceeded expectations, he could opt to keep Gase.
