Well deserved. Class on and off the field. Wish he could take a President type role and be the face of the franchise. He seems to be doing other things and is making a difference. Probably won't come back but well deserved. Hopefully we hear more about his work and what he is doing. Get too many negative stories. We need more postives ones like this. https://www.foxnews.com/sports/hall...tis-martin-receives-honorary-doctorate-degree
I have a non-honorary doctorate. It's sad that someone off the street only needs to get 100 touchdowns and over 14,000 yards rushing to match my achievement. It's not fair on us honest, hard-working folk.
I will never understand the criticism and hatred of Curtis Martin from some folks in the Jets fan base. "He was a compiler". SO WHAT. He overcame serious odds, and it counts for something. It really does. Not to sound like a broken record, but his mother wasn't nice to him, he found his grandmother murdered with a knife sticking out of her chest, his father abandoned him, he hated football, but then had it in his head that he could take care of his mother who wasn't even nice to him as his motivation. He visited and forgave his ailing father years later and set him up so he could be provided for. Who does that? Someone bigger than me. Curtis Martin could have wound up another statistic. He didn't.
I know I've said it before, but I always wear my no. 28 jersey to the London games. I feel pretty confident that no-one in the 90,000 crowd wears the jersey of a classier guy. Proud to have his name on my back.
Well, that's nice. Who gives a shit if it's a facemask, He's being held. "Paging Dr. Martin, you're wanted in the HOF. Paging Dr. Martin."
I did wear Chrebet this year to the Vikings game as it was bloody cold, and it's a larger shirt so fits over my hoodie.
Anyone remember when Curtis Martin was dating singer Toni Braxton for a couple of years (this was ages ago)? She said she broke up with him because he "wasn't man enough for her." What was that supposed to mean? He didn't knock her out with a sucker punch in an elevator in a casino in Atlantic City? Some people were even crapping on him in the comments in the article. Not overtly, but easy enough to discern. I could see people saying negative things if Ben Roethlistrapist was given an honorary degree in Women's Studies, but c'mon now.
Those comments are utterly moronic. Anyone who thinks about it for 30 seconds (unless they're truly clueless) knows that honorary doctorates are precisely the tool academic institutions use to honor people for their achievements. It's not a "real" doctorate, and no one thinks it is, but it is the highest honor of recognition that an academic institution can bestow on someone. People criticizing it as somehow unreasonable because he didn't take classes and write a dissertation are either being willfully obnoxious or are just idiots.
Doctor of Humane Letters Curtis Martin. I always argued that Curtis belonged in the HOF but he wasn't one of the all time great running backs and probably shouldn't have been a first ballot HOF player. He is a first ballot slam dunk in the hall of fame for human beings.
Hope someone awards us an "Honorary Vince Lombardi Trophy" before my time is up. That's right, we have a real one.
