Maybe we aren't trying all that hard to trade him because he's a young player that is making almost no money and would be a very good piece as a rotational player on passing downs that could potentially benefit as a pass rusher as well from playing with better players (Mosley, Q Williams) under a better coach...
At this point why bother, he might be a piece in the comp pick game if he plays well enough this year.
I think we're better off having him play and increase (hopefully) his value. Right now I'm hearing a 5th round pick for him and I think that's way too low.
I find this shocking. I never liked him as a fit for our defense but I always thought he would be a fit for other teams, specifically 4-3 teams.
If it is 5th round that other teams are offering, better him stay and show what he can do under Greg Williams.
Just saying, but all this talk about us going 3-4 is highly overblown IMO. I venture to say once Greg W puts the pieces together up front he will use 4-3 variations a lot more. Lee could very well excel in a more fast paced and pressure packed 4-3. So unless there is a reasonable trade with a team that gives us a position of need, such as CB or OL we might very well keep him and have him prove his worth under a real coach. A fifth at this point will not do much of anything for us.
That is my feeling and my gut tell me it will be first unveiled against NE on week three. Let the dogs loose up front.
With Cashman around I find it weird to have them roster 5 ILBs if you include Hewitt. I assume we overplayed our hand here and teams are just waiting for us to cut him. Unless its for a 4th or better I think it makes sense to see if Gregg Williams can help him. Should he look great next year maybe it makes sense to keep him over Williamson. In either case I think depth + chance of a breakout season is more valuable than trading Lee for a 5th rounder.
Gonna be pretty tough for him to have a breakout season, barring injuries, if he’s barely on the field though....
They will work him in especially in pass situations because he is our best coverage linebacker so he will get some opportunity even if hes not starting.
I just can't see Lee being on the roster come September. Something will happen before then. Similar to Bridgewater last year, it would not make much sense for the Jets to hold on to Lee. Better to get something for him, even if it is a 4th-7th rounder.
Why do people think Gase is better than Toilet? The guy sucked in Miami. I'm more worried that our new coach sucks as bad as or worse than toilet then I am about who is our starting center or what will happen to Lee. With a skeleton WR crew and now good TE's along with Bell it looks like this is an offense built for Chad Pennington, dink, dunk, dink, dunk. is Sam really a dink and dunk guy? I think not. I want to believe the Jets o/u of 7.5 games is a steal for the over but the pieces and personnel just don't add up at this point.
