He was being asked to be an actual QB though. Regardless, I get your point. I just don't think anyone should lose sleep over Stidham taking over the Pats one day.
All of this QB debate makes the AFC East the most interesting division in the NFL in the years to come. Unfortunately none of us wants "interesting". We want even just a brief era of dominance. Last year I had them ranked Darnold, Allen, Rosen because I though Allen's physical skills were special.
True. Allen at 6'5, and he runs straight up like a gazelle, he's gonna take a lot of square on hits. The shorter QBs are actually at an advantage when it comes to running and staying healthy, they stay low to the ground, taking more hits to the shoulder pads and they can be more slippery and hide behind lineman. Russell Wilson is great at that, he runs a lot but almost never gets hit square
Back in the day the game didn’t really start to slow down for most QBs until closer to 30. Now that these kids put it up in the air so much in HS and college it’s happening a lot sooner. If Buffalo is patient with Allen I think he will get there eventually. He’s in a good spot because I don’t think he would get the kind of patience he needs anywhere else especially not here.
Give a choice I’d rather the rest of the division be filled with Tannahills at QB. Rosen and Allen have potential at least. That blows. I do believe we got the best of the 3. The Jets will have a chance to own the division of Darnold turns the corner. Unless of course Brady plays to 50.
I can be objective enough to say that I don’t know if we have the best of the bunch. Time will tell. Just happy we’re finally in the QB game. Took long enough
Allen's mobility is a huge part of his game, but it's not his only asset. The guy has a very impressive deep ball. If teams want to stack the box on him, they'd be taking their chances on a big play. I think opposing D's have to keep a S deep at all times, as well as 1 LB to spy on him running, which opens up other areas of Buffalo's anemic offense. And while he is not consistent in intermediate passes, and sometimes downright ugly, he does also drop some of the nicest dimes you'll see in the league. His big area of improvement will be developing some sort of consistency if anything. The ability is there.
I say bring it on... The Jets have to prove we have the best team in the AFC East..I dont care who is the QB is I think we are gonna sweep the Fins or Bills come September (prob the Dolphins since Gase knows the team and hates the Owner) We have some good players and lots of hopefuls Compared to the Bills and Dolphins we have the better CS ..believe it or not if Gase can beat NE twice with the semi pro team he had in Miami we stand a very good chance even with the Lunch Pail of players Mac has assembled
I will be far more concerned with the 2019 season if Fitzpatrick throws for 400 yards and 5 TDs in a rout of the Jets at Met Life. THEN I'll lose sleep.
lol I really hope Fitz isn't starting when we play them. He's due for a few games a magic a year, and you just know one of them would be at MetLife
We open and close the 2019 season with the Bills coming to NY, then Jets going to the wasteland more commonly called 'Buffalo'. How different will the two teams look day one versus week 17? Jets seems to have more new parts that will have to jell and learn to play together, including any O-line help that comes during training camp. Bills seem more or less set, with the addition of Oliver on their d-line. I can see the Bills winning easily week one at metlife, with the Jets winning in a close battle in Buffalo for WC#6 to close out the season. Book it!
I'm betting on the opposite to happen. Lots of juice in this first meeting, Le'Veon, Uniforms, home opener etc. I can only wish this team is a strong finisher but I am not betting on that.
Except the reality is completely different. Rosen was first in the door last to leave and was great with the AZ media. He gave an amazingly classy goodbye and played in Fitzgerald's charity softball game the day before going to Miami. He's got a lot to prove but the characterizations of him since he turned pro are nonsense.
Suppose Miami finishes near the bottom and gets a top 5 draft pick as many have predicted. Next year's crop of QBs looks pretty good and will be hard for them to pass on. will Rosen get traded again????
Could happen but he's so cheap since AZ paid the bulk of his salary for the next few years it would pay to keep him as either a backup or a 1 year starter.
I concur. In fact, I thought the Giants getting him was a probable scenario and I too was suprised they didn't - since they would have ended up with Saquon AND one of the 2018 draft class QB's many thought they should have picked instead. Use their own #6 for Josh Allen this year and Bam! The Giants are on their way back. I think Rosen would fit in great with the NY media actually. I also think after his rough time in AZ he'd be OK sitting behind Eli for a season when he may not have been if drafted by the Giants last year. So, I do think the Giants missed a big opportunity, unless of course they just don't like him, which is fine. So, I don't know who to blame for Rosen landing with the Dolphins; God, The Cardinals, or Dave Gettleman?
I agree. I think the Giants were stupid to not grab Rosen. As you laid out, there were so many positives that could've flowed from that. As for him being Miami, that concerns me a lot. He has massive talent that was wasted in AZ, and it could be wasted again in Miami, but with any kind of coaching and support he could become the QB that many predicted. I was hoping we would take Rosen because I believe he has such natural ability, but I'm glad we got Darnold, and I think Sam will be the best of all of them due to his combination of abilities - passing, scrambling, pocket awareness, calmness under stress, etc. That said, it's not like he alone can carry the Jets above the others, like Brady can, at least not yet. Buffalo has better all around talent, and Allen is a wildcard. I echo legler and other's sentiments that Allen is a gamer and can win games in unorthodox ways. The Patriots are the Patriots of course as long as Brady is healthy. And now Miami has a legit FQB candidate, and even when the Dolphins suck they seem to be able to beat us. There is much more work to be done for the Jets to separate themselves and claim the throne from N.E.
